Inducted into the world of music at a young age, lessons in piano, violin and vocals has led Emilio Basa to be the accomplished musician he is today. Taking influences from a wide variety of artists that range from the Counting Crows, Stevie Wonder, and Led Zeppelin, he has been involved with a plethora of many different projects. Basa has been on heavy rotation on many college radio stations and is receiving airplay on multiple international stations. He is a truly independent artist. Meaning he has no label, manager, promoter, nor booking agent.
Basa’s latest project is the Ep entitled “Testify,” which really plays testimony to his acoustic-driven mixture of pop, folk, rock, and funk. It contains five tracks that will rope you in and hold your attention non-stop until the end. Emilio’s music makes you feel like opening your heart, walking down the street, and crying out at the top of your voice: “I’m alive and this is the way I feel!” His performances clearly show his musicality, his honesty, and his total engagement to music.
Every moment on “Testify” is a sonic fruit to be savored. It is lush, full, and vibrant. Emilio Basa confirms that he is a masterful vocalist and gifted songwriter in the budding. He has a voice that moves through you, conjuring every emotion known. It is robust, sexy, and powerful, yet at the same time being delicate and vulnerable. If you are a lover of music, especially of true singer-songwriters, this amazing artist will twist your heart.

From the opening funky jangle of the title track, “Testify” is a descent into a musical realm that will leave no sense untouched. Basa’s seductive grungy voice will sends listeners into ecstasy with the soulful “Obsession” and through to the unbridled seduction of “Cannonball.” Similarly Basa captivates and bludgeons with brilliance on “Broken Halo” and “Hanging Heart,” his unique sound and aura, creating a kind of black-hole in which you can find almost any emotion you want.
There’s something in this Ep for any real music lover to enjoy, regardless of genre. The accompanying band is harmonic, while Emilio’s acoustic guitar work is rhythmic and haunting, displaying fleeting traces of his early grunge and R&B influences.
“Testify” is like nothing you’ve recently heard, that’s for sure. It’s not like roaring alternative rock, or soul-pop vocal histrionics. It’s simply soul-searching lyrics against a backdrop of fiery acoustic driven rhythms, and Emilio Basa’s personal style and voice, fits it all so well.
