Shoshin, a trio from Manchester, England, formed in late 2009 by Pete Haley. The band started out performing car-battery powered guerrilla street gigs all over Europe in 70 different cities and 11 countries spreading their sound, and sharing their vibes, throughout Europe. In January 2010 Shoshin performed for a total of 7 hours over 2 days in below freezing conditions outside the annual Eurosonic NorderSlaag Festival in Groningen Holland having driven there all the way from Manchester uninvited.
In mid-2012 Shoshin embarked on a US campaign, touring throughout famous NYC venues/festivals, such as Café Wha, The Bowery Electric, and the CBGB Festival to name a few. They have also recently completed a UK tour. In 2013 Shoshin bring their music to South America, playing alongside the current #1 Latin American Rock band, in a 3 city, multi-venue tour. Once completed, they’re off again, tirelessly bringing their sounds to Europe for another two-months, covering 3 countries.
Shoshin has also completed recording their official debut album “DEEP SLEPRIVATION,” with world renowned producer Joel Hamilton (Studio G) who’s works include: Matisyahu, The Black Keys, Mos Def and many others.

First and foremost, Shoshin are a killer band from the roots up. Drummer Abbi Phillips and bass player Joe Stuart are an exceptionally exciting and dynamic rhythm section, while vocalist and guitarist Pete Haley comes up with some of modern rock’s best guitar riffs in years. Pete’s full range singing ( and rap-like excursions) is intense and urgent, while his lyrics are intelligent and insightful, without ever being simplistic or pretentious. He’ll make you think, and question your life values and societal norms, sometimes quite seriously and at others, with a rather tongue-in-cheek approach.
The band, on a whole, sound raw and intense, yet the production is clean and crisp, making it all so easily accessible. If you took classic The Police, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, plus Men At Work and threw them into a mashup mix, you’d more than likely come up with the Shoshin sound.
Shoshin is a band that should appeal to all different types of people. There’s definitely an element of hip-hop, reggae, soul and even a slight trace of new-wave punk, weaved into their driving rock structures. This album never lets up. From the opening “Big Bang” to the closing “Surrounded,” every song is intense, and has an infectious groove and catchy riff, together with a series of hypnotic melodies and machine-gun rap lines. Standout tracks are without a doubt; “Here Comes My Favorite,” “Levity,” “Litterbug,” “Through The Leaves” and “The Rant,” but there’s not a bad track to be found here.
In a phenomenally powerful, vibrant and out-of-the-box debut, Shoshin manage to immediately place themselves in the upper echelon of impressive indie artists. The quality of their music is what carries them through, and the quality on this album is of the highest level.
As such, the songs on “DEEP SLEPRIVATION,” sound brutally fresh and are ready to hit the international airwaves as from now. There simply isn’t a weak track on this album. Not one. From top to bottom, it’s filled with creative riffs, compelling lyrics and shining vocals, as well as a rhythm section that gives Shoshin it’s authentic groove-rocking character!
