Nokia Music, together with the legendary Sundance film festival recently commissioned some of the world’s most respected independent directors to produce ‘New American Noise’, a unique six-part documentary which shines a light on the underground music scene in six American cities. By detailing the incredible diversity of musical subcultures, it gives an unprecedented insight into the lives and passions of today’s music fans.
To further explore this fascinating theme, Nokia Music are now looking to find the next set of underground tribes, by launching a short-film competition in association with Talenthouse and Sundance London (2013), challenging filmmakers and directors across the globe to capture the underground music scenes in their cities.
To grasp this exciting opportunity, filmmakers simply need to upload an original (new or existing) short video trailer (15 sec – 1 min) visualizing the underground music scene in their chosen city. Think of this trailer as an audition, which showcases your concept. The panel of judges are looking for the amazing, the unusual and the unknown. It might be a unique musical identity or an authentic sound from a city. Today’s music landscape is more vibrant and eclectic than ever before, so ideally it should also show cultures coming together and shaping the tracks coming from their part of the world.
Nokia Music, in association with Sundance London (2013), is looking for creative ideas that will really push the boundaries of the camera and the possibilities of mobile filmmaking. All styles and approaches are welcome, just make sure you clearly describe what you intend to create. Two winning filmmakers will receive a $5,000 production budget each, along with two Lumia 920 phone handsets. But it doesnt stop there, for the final chosen winner there is an additional grand prize of $5,000 up for grabs! What’s more, there will be an all expenses paid trip, with special screenings of both films at Sundance London (2013) in April, along with a mentoring session with one of the noted judges.
Sundance London (2013) is a partnership between Robert Redford, Sundance Enterprises, Sundance Institute and AEG Europe. If you’re passionate about film and music then there’s simply nowhere else to be… running from 25-28 April 2013, the second Sundance London is set to present four exciting days of live music, with the UK premieres of American independent films fresh from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, plus panel discussions, filmmaker Q&As and exclusive events. Sundance London is an invitation to map your own Sundance experience.
