Born and raised in Phoenix Arizona, ATTICA! currently lives in Raleigh, NC. He used to be in an indie pop punk band, but says that he has now found his dimension as a rapper. His latest track, the dark and grimey “Spooky Place”, is able to entice the senses on an elemental level without requiring the listener to do much more than enjoy the ride. The track only being one and a half minutes long, ATTICA! does not have the time to overly impress from a lyrical and storytelling perspective, yet the structure of the track is proof that he is fully aware of how to play to his strengths.
In any case what reason is there to over analyze bars when he opens the track with his consistently infectious delivery, hypnotizing production and a show-stopping verse. It’s clear that ATTICA! is growing, experimenting, and changing his sound, so he’s kind of keeping the song short and sweet while putting in as much passion as possible.
He’s moving in the right direction, as I would like to hear more about his passions, pains, and demon slaying, rather than the usual repetitive words and sounds you get in mainstream hip-hop.
With “Spooky Place”, ATTICA! is not offering an overly experimental piece with too many hidden truths or conceptual plotlines. He is simply in the dark trap zone and the sonic foundation of the track certainly raises its stock because it places ATTICA! right in his comfort zone, as his flow comes across just as dark as Freed666’s soundscape does.
And he sounds as though he effectively caters to a devoted fan-base by delivering an immediately gratifying project. ATTICA! may be capable of creating an even higher caliber body of work by implementing a refined focus, a longer duration and taking more time to craft, but that doesn’t lessen the value of “Spooky Place” as a mood-setting piece, fully capable of being enjoyed from front to back without a care in the world.
Just how important is substance to music? How important is originality? Performing skill? Listening to a lot of music, one develops a set of criteria by which they judge it, like looking for depth of emotion, or creative soundscapes. ATTICA’s! world envelops you, and creates a truly immersive sensation.
The production on conjures up images of storm clouds and gothic castles, imposing sonic architecture for ATTICA’s! to hang his stories on. It’s the kind of music that is all about mood, and atmosphere. If he can do this much with one and a half minutes, can you imagine what he can do with 3 minutes!
