Status Unknown: “Raging Bull” – an infectious sonic barrage!

Status Unknown was initially built around an idea by singer-songwriter and guitarist Lee Fender, who up until that time had never performed in a band or in front of an audience. Andy Dimelow was the first to join after reading an advertisement looking for a guitarist. Drummer Cal Ryan and experienced Bass player Glen Sutton soon followed suit, and Status Unknown was born.

The band progressed to release their first EP, entitled “Lower Class Pursuits” in 2013. At the beginning of 2016 Andy and Lee set up their own recording studio and have been laying down tracks for an Album to drop in 2017. One of the songs contemplated to be on the album is “Raging Bull”, which was originally set to be on the debut EP.

This track is wickedly vicious, melodic, relentless and incredibly catchy. It moves away from the sterile radio material we’ve become accustomed to, by turning Lee and Andy’s experiments and sprawling concepts into a super charged song. The production is better – obviously it has been remastered, but the drums get the crash they deserve and the guitar is a wave of awesome treble attack.

“Raging Bull” seems to carry influences from 60’s pop melodicism delivered with the same rage and power as hardcore alternative-rock material.

The song combines everything that makes rock music great: emotion, intensity, and hooks galore. The sonic barrage that Status Unknown achieves on this track is infectious, while the potent lead vocals only add to the overall dynamic chemistry.

This song, along with a few others on their Soundcloud profile, gives the impression that the band has never had more fun, reaching peak after dizzying peak of musical euphoria – both electric and acoustic – achieving a whirling rawness that few bands can conjure up, and they just love taking you along for the ride.

If you like emotions wrapped in raw and abrasive soundscapes, along with catchy anthemic hooks, this is for you. But along with sonic firepower, this track shows the band’s songwriting truly came into its own. This collective does not try to make fashionable music for the sake of trends, that’s probably why they’re still Status Unknown.

Their music simply captures the band’s intensity, energy and creativity, in it’s rawest and truest form. And amidst all this clanging power and cutting lyrics, Status Unknown, manage to squeeze in heavy doses of melody. “Raging Bull” will creep up and knock you over the head!
