Phenix, who is currently working on her debut EP, “Meltdown”, dropped the track “Piles of Gold” featuring Sweet Poison, a couple of months back, now she has released the single “Meltdown”. And yet another miracle she popped out of her bag. This track is an art piece since every beat has its place, ever word is carefully chosen, and her voice just hits you. How can you not be enchanted by this song? So simple and yet says so much about the pains of relationships.
Cryptic, complex and captivating, Phenix’s haunting melodies, and controversial lyrics, combined with some incredible piano-playing, and amazingly vocal arrangements, make “Meltdown” her most remarkable and accomplished track in terms of artistic vision, and perhaps the most representative of her writing and performing style so far, since she subsequently became a lot more diverse in style. This may require more listens before one realizes and appreciates the meaning behind the song, but proves a most rewarding and unforgettable listening treat.
This is one of those rare occasions where the term “life-changing” perfectly describes a recording. Phenix’s unusual songwriting becomes even more fascinating on “Meltdown”, thanks to her emphasized pronunciation and intentional use of the ‘fuck’ word which enhances the power and angered nature of her lyrics, further contributing to its allure.
For all her lyrical and vocal eccentricities, though, one cannot fault her unorthodox musical invention, in choosing to base the better part of the song’s musical arrangement around the driven piano, and effortlessly succeed in sounding totally compelling. Hearing Phenix at her most delicately raw, “Meltdown” gloriously exhibits her creative genius, while producing a whirlwind of emotions.
Phenix seems to have an unlimited supply of vivid images, which she blends seamlessly with her stunning voice and instrumental backing. The vocals do not simply mirror the melody but form an intricate part of the music in their own right. She is more sonically and musically adventurous than on her previous release and the result is a majestic work with provocative lyrics that will have a deep, resonant impact on listeners. If your taste is anything like mine, prepare to be blown away!
