EyeKonik: “I Want To Be Your Man” ft Roger Troutman – a unique blend that comes together well!

EyeKonik is an Italian-American music and television producer, rapper, songwriter and music manager. EyeKonik started his career working for the family business since the age of 15. He quickly worked his way up in the company to become the Director of Marketing, building the family business into one the largest of its kind in Southern California by utilizing his creative skills in media and public relations. It was during these years that EyeKonik discovered his true passion was in the music industry.

Through the media contacts he developed over this time, EyeKonik was introduced to many rising star talents and established music professionals. EyeKonik and his brother formed a management company called SEG, Inc. Partnering with major studios in San Diego and Los Angeles, EyeKonik was able to launch many music careers. Eventually Andy made the move toward becoming an independent music professional. Arranging, writing and producing his first cd. He quickly went back to the drawing board and began working in the studio as his stage name “EyeKonik”.

Like JaRule, Ashanti and Tech N9ne before him, EyeKonik has released his own hiphop reworking of legendary funk singer-songwriter, Roger Troutman’s ‘87 smash hit track, “I Want To Be Your Man”. The original song was written by Roger’s brother, Larry Troutman. Back in the day Troutman’s synthesized voice (which, was created by a talkbox – a tube-like device attached to his keyboard which he sang through) was unlike anything heard before and the precursor for what today is made famous (and easy) by Autotune.

EyeKonik sticks to Troutman’s synthesized-styled chorus and just flows over the top with his rhyming verses.  It’s a unique blend that just comes together so we’ll. One thing is obvious about this track: EyeKonik didn’t compromise with anything. Even if you don’t like the music (highly unlikely for this track), everyone likes to see someone work hard on something they’re passionate about, and that’s the impression EyeKonik gives us here.

eyekonik-300bEyeKonik’s true to self, aggressive and insistent flow is met with a mid-tempo funky arrangement, and Troutman’s synth-voice. Resulting in EyeKonik pulsating with a genuine Hip Hop atmosphere by simply laying bare his heart and soul as few rappers dare to do nowadays, as he sings “Gotta be your man, wanna be your man!”

You can see the inspiration in EyeKonik’s music and the artists that he draws from. He even comes through with a bit of singing, and smooth harmonies. Who knew he can sing? There are those more mature, melodic, and meaningful songs that he’s done, like “Stay The Night” to play testimony to his vocal escapades.

EyeKonik continues to mature and evolve as any artist should. Whether his producing, rapping, singing or song writing, this Italian-American with Sicilian roots, blurs the lines of genres and brings along a breath of fresh air!
