CJ Godfrey Verse One Beats: “Be There” – Uplifting and infectious!

CJ Godfrey Verse One Beats is a 26 year old composer from Albany, New York who started making “beats” in the Summer of 2011. He creates anything from Hip-Hop beats, to Trance/House, and Acoustic Pop. The track “Be There” was created from scratch using vocal samples from Lucy Rose’s song “Shiver” and original synth parts written and produced by CJ Godfrey.

What stands out about this track is how aware CJ Godfrey seems to be about the current state of dance music. He has tuned his ear to both pop trends and underground sounds. So he can easily bring forth a dancefloor-ready cut, with heaving four-on-the-floor basslines, ready to pack in classic house and trance vibes.

Enough can’t be said about how funky the bassline is and how robust and a smooth, rolling boil the top-line synths need to be in order to not be swallowed by the low-end or sound entirely out of place on the track.

However, in being able to remember and access what dance once meant—rich, vibrant, thumping anthems featuring sumptuous vocal performances— CJ Godfrey Verse One Beats has defied expectations and created a diverse, left-leaning winner, minus lead vocals.

Beat maven CJ Godfrey is not one to shy away from quality songwriting or massive hooks. I found this much out listening to his “The Apparition EP” compilation. Yet here he has managed to come away with a catchy, banging electro soundscape without the big vocals, except for some low key male adlibs.

Regardless of what you were expecting from “Be There”, you will invariably be surprised by the quality of its sound. It creates a completely immersive listening experience, inviting fans into a beautifully executed sonic atmosphere.

I recently discovered CJ Godfrey Verse One Beats, when I listened to “Be There”, and was instantly drawn to the lush production, perfect electronic timbre, strong rhythm and blended harmony. Uplifting and infectious, it won’t take you long to appreciate the brilliance of his productions.
