CitySpeak is fronted by Jesse Mason, whose eclectic music style began at a young age with a fascination for the arpeggio chip tunes of early videogames. Seeking what he loved, he looked for these and other unique synthetic sounds in the music he listened to and, soon after, created. Striving to produce the interesting and unusual; atmospheric, big-stadium sounds are often paired with bold chip tune synths. Calculated snares keep the beat in check while carefully utilized bass adds cool and at times, moody intonation. This seemingly odd combination results in a refreshingly new twist on today’s often “cookie-cutter” electronic music.
Cityspeak brings a lot to the table, the technique is solid, and the music itself is at times epic, at other times soulful and inspiring. The offerings here, like “Mode D”, “Pris”, “Interlude”, “2019” and “Momentum” show an artist refining himself and are truly hopeful signs of great stuff to come!
CitySpeak just excels at making feel good music. The arrangements are very “detailed” with so many different sounds; you can tell that Mason takes time to perfect his craft. To my mind these songs are just a small glimpse of his talent. The music arcs from atmospheric staging to dramatic build so well and, of course, delivers the massive drop that, by the time it comes, you are about ready to explode for.
Instead of falling victim to following the formalities of the electronic genre, like his many contemporaries, Jesse Mason and CitySpeak, forges its own path through the jungle of electronica possibilities. The result is an original and inventive collection of electronic songs.

Many music fans often look with disdain upon artists who create dance music. As if dance music automatically flows out of a computer or sequencer at will. It is often forgotten that creating dance music takes an effort and a high level of creativity. CitySpeak’s music is a product of a highly creative spirit and a great ‘feel’ for the right sounds and moods.
On these latest releases, Mason shows that he has genuine music producer skills. The songs are a blend of old-school computerized sounds, and present-day IDM rhythm and technology. CitySpeak deliver smooth transitions, building energy levels, compelling synthesizers, and a careful selection of sounds that flows so easily into the mind, that absorbing it is as easy as breathing.
From the first track to the last, CitySpeak move through a variety of tempo and mood changes, always producing songs that are uplifting, interesting, captivating and reassuring. The tracks rarely ever get bogged down with overlong boring sections, corny samples, or cheesy effects. The music is layered, lush, and warm, without losing its sharp bite, while the beats tend to be more interesting and fuller than your typical slamming dance kicks.
If you like melodic and atmospheric, electronic music, you will probably like CitySpeak.
