Sha-La Music, Inc. announces the release of DownTown Nashville, the new EP from Americana/Roots Rocker DownTown Mystic. Sha-La will send out an exclusive Radio-Only cd to Americana Radio, as well as make it available for download prior to the official release date via AirPlay Direct. DownTown Nashville will get its World Premiere on the popular music siteThe Vinyl District on March 8. The EP will be officially released on March 18 and digitally distributed via Sony Music’s The Orchard.
DownTown Nashville contains 6 tracks that features the rhythm section of Ian Hunter’s Rant Band–drummer Steve Holley & bassist Paul Page. Former Nashville studio ace Lance Doss also lends his 6-string expertise to add some down-home flavor. Steve Holley is a NYC legend who has worked with just about everyone, including Rock Royalty Sir Paul & Sir Elton, and his performances shine on each track. DownTown Mystic writer/producer Robert Allen says “I feel blessed to be playing with these great musicians. To go from playing with Max (Weinberg) and Garry (Tallent) to Steve and Paul as a rhythm section is like being in rock’n’roll heaven.”
Included on the EP is Believe, which was on a Country Hits cd that Sony Music released in Europe featuring a Who’s Who of Nashville with names like: Underwood, Bryan, Shelton, Chesney, Lambert, Aldean,Church, Brown, Bentley and more. Believe made the disc when another artist refused permission to use his song. Robert picks up the story, “By a stroke of luck my song was added to this incredible cd with all these great Nashville artists and it sowed the seeds for this EP. I love the vibe of Nashville as a city and the symbol it represents. There’s a reason it’s called Music City and its spirit has inspired my music for many years.” The following year the self-titled DownTown Mystic cd was released at Americana Radio in the US, reaching #1 on the Roots Music Report and staying on the AMA Radio charts for 40 weeks. With the recent success of red hot producer Dave Cobb bringing an authentic “back to roots” sound to Country with Grammy winning artists Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell, Sha-La felt it was a good time for a release like DownTown Nashville.
The cover artwork is classic Americana–the iconic Oak Bar Men’s Room in Nashvlle’s Hermitage Hotel. And classic influences show up all over the EP. On the lead track Sometimes Wrong there’s a tip of the hat to The Everly Bros and Rise and Fall shows the LA-Nashville connection with Eagles influences conjuring up a mythic “witchy woman”. Backdoor honkytonks a one night stand gone bad and Losing My Mind (Too Many Times) vents the frustration currently being felt in the nation ala Steve Earle. The EP finishes with the fingerpicking simplicity of Believe and the toe-tapping Shade of White Bluegrass. Robert adds, “I might be a rocker but Bluegrass is a guilty pleasure. To me it’s synonymous with fun and you can’t help but smile when you play it.”
2015 was a busy year for DownTown Mystic with 3 releases, including the successful DownTown Mystic On E Street, an EP that features the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame rhythm section from Bruce Springsteen’slegendary E Street Band–drummer “Mighty” Max Weinberg & bassist Garry W. Tallent. Besides the 3 releases, 2015 also saw DownTown Mystic having continued Sync success, reaching a milestone by having music placed on over 100 TV shows and getting songs placed in not 1 but 2 movies–Far Too Far and Cam Zink: Reach For The Sky about Freeride mountain biking legend Cam Zink alongside songs by Pearl Jamand Social Distortion.
2016 has started off with more worldwide radio play as the single Way To Know, from the E Street EP, has climbed to #6 after 7 straight weeks on the Official European Independent Chart. There’s also been the exclusive release on YouTube of the video single She Said, She Said tribute to the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles classic Revolver album. Now DownTown Mystic is at the last outpost for American Rock’n’Roll in DownTown Nashville.
