Sonic Entropy is a project by Peter Almosdi, an engineering-physicist from Budapest, who recently released the 11 track album, entitled “Panorama”. Sonic Entropy continues to evolve his sound by blending in everything from electro to breakbeat to dub to the DnB sound that is distinctly his own. Arguably a cohesive and ambitious effort, the album covers a variety of tempos and styles across its duration. Fear not, though, this is still 100% Sonic Entropy to the core, so sit back and enjoy the ride!
Kicking off with the accelerating powerhouse that is “Panorama Mongolia”, we are plunged straight into a world of grinding synths and booming sub bass. “Ascension” begins to challenge our preconceptions, with clicking drumstep beats meeting juddering subsonic warps. Further on, we discover the classic sounds and catchy oblique vocal hook of “Through the Park”. Tracks such as “Missing You”, “The End is Happy”, “Different Tonight” adds more choppy twists in the journey. “The Miquiare Star” sees a change in tone again, before “Kinyílt A Viola” and “Lithium Sky” provides a triumphant and emphatic outro to this exceptional album.
All round, “Panorama” is a drum n’ bass tour de force. Rapid drums and deep bass lines pound away and become increasingly intense as the track progresses until a frenzy of bass and drums is pounding you into submission by the end. However there’s so much more to this album than what most drum n bass gives you. From lush, rolling atmospheres to hard hitting pitch shifts teamed with offbeat vocals, Sonic Entropy tries everything. Every facet of this album cries individuality and humble importance.
It stands out as sheer unadulterated genius. From the opening track to the last beat, Sonic Entropy creates a world that is so beautifully orchestrated that one can only sit back, close your eyes, and be completely overwhelmed. Almosdi puts together hard deep beats and then creates beautiful light rhythms and melodies to float just overhead. The sparse vocals filter in and out of the record as a reminder of the heavenly state of sounds that have been assembled here.
The most impressive feature of “Panorama” is the way Sonic Entropy encompasses such a wide variety of beats and sounds, and is then able to mold them into one defiant and unique exploration into the world of electronic music. Quite simply, this album does not fit into any one subgenre of electronic music. Rooted in the signature DnB sound, Sonic Entropy adds some singing, atmosphere, sound effects, hard hitting beats (with plenty of accents), it’s just so hard to describe. Every sound is placed in a great place, from basslines, hits, vocals, and all of the other stuff. If you like big beats, you will find them here, and these rhythms can get very addicting.
