Based out of the Philippines, the label DabriaLive Records started out as Dabria in 2011 as a duet of Anette Mendoza and Dalia Barrera, managed by Rick and Marilou Shurn. In their attempt to accomplish the difficult task of getting the girls visas and introducing them to the USA market, a whole new world opened up for the collective, which prompted them to launch the DabriaLive Production Group. Soon they began scouting and signing up new talent. The next step required them to step up production quality, which meant they turned into a full production record label, with their music being made in house. Along their journey of growth, DabriaLive Records signed Kaylah Marin, the songwriter of “#ThemJeans”, and followed that up with the 18 year old songstress Lynette Santos, who would ultimately cut this song as a single.
Lynette Santos was first discovered by DabriaLive Records when she sang at a birthday party while she was 16 years old. Two years later she was in the studio, without any previous experience, recording the lead vocals for “#ThemJeans”, which she completed in under 2 hours.
Lynette has one of the more capable voices in contemporary pop, a clean image, far-reaching charisma, and an ability to take a song she didn’t write and find a way to imbue her own interpretive instincts into the mix. Lynette’s vocals mesh perfectly with the Dabria made beat – the percussive pop style, accentuating the confident, fluid vocals.
Everything to like about Lynette Santos is here in large quantities, and it’s all filtered through her sweet disposition. No pop record can be great without some smart nuancing, and there’s plenty of it to go around here. Take, for example, the carefully placed backing vocals and the stream of driving percussion.
This renders the track a particularly vivacious and rewarding listen even through headphones. With its pulsating beat and swirling electronic composition, it proves to be an infectious piece of ear candy. The song maintains a steady flow of power as it moves between verse and chorus, resounding with Lynette’s melodic voice.
It’s easy to think that if Lynette Santos could put out an album that consistently captured the best of her talents, like those shown on this single, that record might be enough to help her and DabriaLive Records to aspire to one of the many thrones of commercial dominance in pop music. In the meantime “#ThemJeans” should be good enough to keep that dream alive.
