NASHVILLE, TN / Los Angeles, CA – BB Bates has officially released his new album, Outlaw Country, a project that pushes the boundaries of the genre by fusing traditional outlaw country with blues, bluegrass, and an unfiltered lyrical edge rarely heard in contemporary releases.
Outlaw Country stands out as a bold and unapologetic record. The album features gritty storytelling, heavy profanity, and themes that deliberately reject polish in favor of authenticity. While rooted in outlaw country traditions, the lyrics lean into a modern cadence that “almost come across as gangster rap,” creating a stark contrast between classic instrumentation and aggressive vocal delivery.
Bates was transparent about the album’s production process, “Bates confessed that he sang the vocals and wrote the lyrics, but the music was created using AI.”
He further explained the challenge of performing alongside advanced technology: “AI has no limits on how well it can sing, so getting even close to their performance, vocally, is quite the challenge. I was just hoping to sing it good enough that people can enjoy the really great songs.”
The result is a raw, confrontational album that embraces imperfection and intensity. This is one of the first outlaw country albums in recent years to deliberately mix blues and bluegrass with modern, hard-edged lyricism, positioning Outlaw Country as both a throwback and a disruption.
Beyond music, BB Bates is also known as actor / filmmaker Brannon Bates, who released four independent films this year to Amazon Prime and Tubi: Payback Jack, The Dodd Diaries, The Murder Code, and An Open Door.
His work across film and music shares a consistent tone – dark, unfiltered, and focused on character-driven storytelling.
