Born in Wauseon, Ohio, Morenci, Mich., native isn’t your typical musician. In an industry where “keeping it real” is a way of life, Cody’s reality is so undeniably true that one has no choice but to respect it. Cody has just dropped his 6 track “Clean Slate” EP. He flies straight out of Morenci and smacks you in the face with this recording which has a sound all of its own, which he blends around each track in varying doses.
His is the story of a small-town boy catching fire in a digital age, where musical cross-pollination is everywhere. Cody Dale rise is fueled by high energy and relatable lyrics, music with the ability to rock a crowd and the studio savvy to capture that lightning in a bottle. Cody owns that place where Country, Midwest Rock, Pop and Hip Hop come together, where the beat rocks the story and the story rocks the beat.
Authenticity looms large for Cody Dale – who has opened for Big Sean Machine Gun Kelly, Mac Miller and Afroman, among others – as he tows that eclectic list of genres behind him like a kid dragging a boogie board through the sand. Yet he’s reluctant to pigeonhole himself into any one of those musical regions.
The common thread between these crossover genres, of course, is the storytelling. His lyrics have the power to convince you that you were there, and that this is exactly how things played out.
There are moments where crossover-ready songs like “Hometown Love (Ft. Eric Ondrus)”, “Dear HiZe” and “Feet On The Dashboard” will surprise many, in how strong the songwriting and production is. “Clean Slate” is a culmination of hard work which is set to blow the lid off an industry that spends too much time putting artists in boxes, instead of letting them make the art they love.
There isn’t a bad song on the EP, and chances are your favorites may be different than mine. But the moment that you hit play you are met with a groove that draws you into it and you can’t help but bop along as it fuses together a healthy offering of everything that inspires Cody Dale. From there he pulls you into his catchy lyrics that are fun and easy to sing-a-long, “Hometown Love (Ft. Eric Ondrus)” being a prime example.
Combine the relatability factor of the lyrics with the groove factor that you can’t help but love, and Cody will have gotten you excited about his new EP, with a song that you can’t get enough of! The many musical flourishes keep the EP sonically interesting, while Cody’s flow and sung verses will do the rest to enchant you.
