Mflux & The Bass Rangers: “Golden Hour” brings a new wave of electronic music to the masses

Mflux & The Bass Rangers has a long history in electronic music with releases under several pseudonyms on alternative and major labels.   The members of Mflux are based in Hamburg and Bochum (Germany), while The Bass Rangers are located in New York and Los Angeles (USA) and working as professional bass & guitar session musicians.  Their latest album “Golden Hour” was recorded in LA and Hamburg and kindly mixed fully analog by Peleton at Candy Bomber-Studios in Berlin.

Mflux & The Bass Rangers aggressively pursues the elusive electro-pop perfection on this synesthesia-inspired album.  They use the album as a series of colorful aural arrows, targeting our collective pleasure centers with pinpoint accuracy from an impressive array of angles. Oftentimes they hit the center, and it explodes in rich and expressive hues. Amazingly enough, even when they just a bit off-target, this album still hurts so good.

mflux-tbr-goldenhour-350In the music industry, the second album is everything. While your debut album puts your name on everyone’s lips, it’s the second that’s truly make or break. I actually missed Mflux & The Bass Rangers’ second album, as this is currently the third, but it confirms to the world what EDM fans already knew from the first album: these guys are a force to be reckoned with.

Like many songs on the album, Mflux & The Bass Rangers’ blends pop and electronic influences with quite a few other flavors and lots of melody. If their songs reach terrestrial radio (as they should), then the public will be forced to make way for heavy synth breakdowns and bass-pumping rhythms.

It’s a bold move from any electronic artist, but Mflux & The Bass Rangers has more than enough clout to pull it off and really bring a new wave of electronic music to the masses. It would be hard to resist tracks such as “Bird In A House”, “Good Morning”, “Uberhausen” and “What The F”.

In between you can dig those eclectic playful tracks that this collective is widely known for, such as the swampy “Chordella” and “DJ Schlomo”.

Though it’s hard to pick a breakout track on the album, the funky “Uberhausen” certainly leads the pack for me. It has great instrumentation, between electric and electronic sounds, as well as some rap verses and harmonies thrown in for added pleasure.

“What The F” comes a close second with its hard hitting and persuasive rhythm. Mflux & The Bass Rangers’ does correctly what a lot of other electronic artists have done wrong. He proves his creativity through the ability to bring something fresh to every song.

They show their maturity through production that feels like an album rather than a compilation of a few great, good, and okay songs. In order to captivate a listener for such a long amount of time, one must be able to rewrite and challenge processes. Mflux & The Bass Rangers does exactly that through creating an experience that is compelling to listeners.
