So let’s sit back, kick off our trainers and focus on the music. Forget the porcupine tops, the disco ball hat and the laser-thrust arena. No, on second thoughts, stick with it as you listen to the whoosh of the melody and feel the floating rhythm of “Give A Reason” by Lyndon Rivers featuring Corey Ernie.
The track blew me away with its easy-going high energy pop and fluorescent vocals. What Lyndon Rivers does best, is not the mature and considered love song; but the literate dance frenzy of heartbreak on the dance floor, and he pulls it off perfectly on “Give A Reason“, which is draped in old-school sounds as opposed to the recent ultra-modern EDM releases by Rivers in collaboration with Niki Nova.
On “Give A Reason” Lyndon Rivers throws Corey Ernie into the mix, for a more retro sounding pop dance tune. And it is completely wonderful. There are no bad notes, no humdrum, and no messing around, as Ernie gets on with the job of singing in a comfortable and easy-going way. The result is catchy, punchy, poignant and clever.
If you desire a return to the roots of electronic Britpop music during the 80’s, “Give A Reason” has everything and more, as it delivers a real return to that classic electro-synth roots feel, once frequented by Trevor Horn and Stephen Lipson’s meticulous, masterfully crafted and produced ‘computer’ music, as well as the jaw-droppingly stunning sounds from the Art of Noise and the Pet Shop Boys.
As always Lyndon Rivers mixes melody with sublime sounds to achieve his euphoric, contemporary, yet nostalgic sounding music. Though stylistically diverse, “Give A Reason” is as good as anything he has produced in the past. Moreover, Rivers’ output is always interesting and way above the rest of the ‘electronic’ crowd. “Give A Reason” by Lyndon Rivers featuring Corey Ernie is a massive pop-dance hit just waiting to happen!
