DeboDaTruth of TrillCursive – of which the other half of the partnership is Jay Vannie – is a 23 year old artist from Columbus Ga, who started doing music at 15. He was in the youth choir at church which he says was actually cool. Like most kids, music was the only way he knew how to express himself. Influenced by the likes of Lyfe Jennings, Anthony Hamilton, Jodeci, Jagged Edge, and Lil’ Wayne among others, DeboDaTruth has dropped the “Rothschild” album.
“Rothschild,” says DeboDaTruth, “is the middle school that I went to, A lot of different personalities would cause a lot of different situations. I’m reminiscing on what I seen growing up and how it changed lives around me – For better or for worse.”
DeboDaTruth’s voice and delivery is a little reminiscent of quite a few other artists that come to mind. The difference is because he is singing his own songs, he’s able to interpret the lyrics with more passion and emotion. His rapping, singing and songwriting carries with it a sensitivity sort in the same vein as Anthony Hamilton’s work.
I have to give it to DeboDaTruth’s though, I think the lyrics of his songs are quite good. He avoids most of those annoying, braggadocio, bling-bling clichés wherever he can; and sheds light on real issues in his community and life. He even takes a few shots at the hypocrisy of religious organizations who claim to be open to people from all walks of life.
The music moves from R&B/Soul to edgy Hip-hop soundscapes polished and glossy, with every lyric and note performed perfectly by DeboDaTruth’s. He has used different producers to add a varied flavor to the album and the trick works real well. Among them, Dkeezy, Bruh N Laws, Jherae, Guddie, Taz Taylor, Digital Magik, Canis Major and Ghana 1k.
There are also quite a few features, each bringing some extra substance to the album’s narration, like Cam Ovech, Jakiera Fiveash, Dkeezy, QT-Tarintinto, Jay Vannie, Nard Dixon, Alyssa Farr and Ralph Woodard.
DeboDaTruth is a great artist and has brought us what we have been lacking in Hip hop and R&B; Realism. There are too many people who are caught up in loving these genres that don’t recognize what an artist raps or sings about is still important, and DeboDaTruth brings it to the table in bucket loads.
He runs the gamut of personal topics in a diverse way. It’s a very raw, honest, no holds barred soundtrack of his life and the people and things that surrounded him along the way. Hearing DeboDaTruth thoughts in the expanse of 14 songs is a musical journey I have trouble finding any fault with. From beginning to end I found myself hitting the repeat button often. Consequently it took me a while to get through the whole thing.
DeboDaTruth is the type of artist that takes you through a range of emotions close-up, which you can experience in essential tracks such as, “Say Something ft. Dkeezy (Prod, Dkeezy)”, “Trap Cursive (Prod. Bruh N Laws)”, “Church ft. Cam Ovech (Prod. Digital Magik)”, “Diary ft. Jakiera Fiveash (Prod. Dkeezy)”, “No Different ft. Nard Dixon (Prod. Dkeezy)” and “Ventage (Prod. Canis Major)”. One song flows into another and DeboDaTruth makes you think and laugh and cuss while you listening – All the while spitting his many truths.
