Cash Darden is a singer-songwriter from Orange County California, who currently records with no more than a guitar and himself. “I make the best of what I have and I am hoping to grow an audience as I grow my voice and expand my writing style,” says Cash. “I only write what comes from the heart, so everything you hear is real and true.”
One of Cash Darden’s most heartfelt songs is “No Religion” which has been released as a single and is available on Spotify, iTunes and Amazon, among others. “No Religion is a song I wrote after watching the tragic events of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile unfold on TV,” says Cash. “There’s always talk about White vs. Black, or Black vs. Police, when in reality – its US vs. the WORLD.”
Despite being on a tight production budget, so to speak, Cash Darden is very talented and puts out quality music, very original and sophisticated. A part from playing the guitar, he sings and he can rap too. “No Religion” actually pays testimony to all those talents. His lyrics are meaningful and filled with passion which helps the whole project along. In fact, this young boy is well advanced beyond his years.
If you run through his brief catalog of songs, you will notice that everything about this music is beautiful, regardless of the production values. The songs in essence are extremely well crafted, with wide vocal styles and range, as well as distinct feelings within each song. Cash is a wonderful storyteller and he keeps these stories open enough that they’re widely relatable.
He has a healthy mix of ballads like “You Me and my Guitar” and more upbeat songs like “Plane Crash”, and there is a wonderful simplicity to how he forms his music and builds it up with his lyrics and strummed guitar rhythms.
In this sense “No Religion” is more layered and fleshed out musically, and even more so, both vocally and lyrically, where there are melodic vocal harmonies playing contrast to the breathless rap verses, creating a dense atmosphere.
Cash Darden’s performances are also never over the top; he does not have fireworks or any outrageous special effects. He just plays his guitar and sings, maybe adding some keyboards and percussion. Cash shows such a diverse understanding of indie-pop and rap, blending them both beautifully on “No Religion”.
The fact that Cash Darden can soothe with his vocals, entice with significant guitar-strummed rhythm, and then provoke with heartfelt lyrics, is impressive to say the least.
