Award winning producer and artist Art Tawanghar, described the dance remix of “Behind the Mask” originally written by Grammy nominated flutist and composer, Ron Korb, as having 32 Layers of percussive pieces used on the track, as well as some live elements from the original mix.
The track originally released in 2006 was then described as having ‘a sense of mystery and adventure built as a myriad of percussion instruments coming into play, creating a strong rhythm,’ upon which Korb plays his magical flute.
Art Tawanghar’s crowd-pleasing remix is the kind of epic banger that fills a dance floor and worms its way into the head of fans and naysayers alike. With track, Tawanghar draws the listener into a world of pure and unparalleled mystery with its thread of Middle Eastern flavor. And if the percussion was the track’s driving factor in 2006, imagine its importance ten years later with evolved technology at hand.
Art Tawanghar is unrelenting in his quest for a well-rounded, atmospheric and emotional mood within this dance tune. His eccentric taste and non-conformist, as well as multifaceted approach to production is what helps set him apart. He breaks musical boundaries by reworking a beautiful new age Chillout piece and takes listeners on a magical journey.
But what makes it so special is Tawanghar’s expertise behind the boards. Presenting his instinctive ability to want to devastate dance-floors whilst flirting with a variety of sounds, moods more suited to a film soundtrack.
In my opinion the track gives you a good idea of the sound that Art Tawanghar represents, without losing the core of Ron Korb’s original sonic intentions. I haven’t found myself in a situation since I’ve started listening to this last week where it didn’t fit it: I listened to it riding on my motorcycle, concentrating at work, just in the background around the house, and then at full blast at my studio.
So it’s not a track where you have to be in the mood to hear it, then pass over it and think you’ll come back to it later. You’ll find yourself gravitating towards it whenever you know you need to listen to unique, great music whether you want to rock with the beat or just have something chill playing in the house.
If you’re testing the water for more electronic music with an eclectic touch and an epic sound, this is a great starting point that will not disappoint.
More than any other high-profile release since the new dawn of crossover, “Behind the Mask” is an odyssey of percussion, melody, and well-crafted bliss that reflects the state and times of the genre in the capable hands of a producer able to carve out a discernable renewed IDM identity for a classic new age song.
