“Anthems For The Fallen” – in a crowded rock neighborhood ‘Lost Souls On Broadway’ stand tall!

“Anthems For The Fallen” is a 14 track album by the  Lost Souls On Broadway, a band led my Mark Sarro, who is joined by producer and Gold Record recording artist Dean Davidson (Britney Fox, Blackeyed Susan), and studio legend Phil Nicolo (John Lennon, The Police, Bob Dylan). Alongside Mark, in Lost Souls On Broadway is Matt Harrigan, who has shared the stage with Cinderella and has been considered for plum sideman work such as playing with Vinnie Moore and Mattson Parry and the Truth. “Lost Souls On Broadway is the most genuine and honest music I’ve done,” confides songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, and conceptualist, Mark Sarro. “These songs are raw and emotional.”

The neighborhood of alternative rock inhabited by Lost Souls On Broadway is admittedly crowded, but they manage to stand tall thanks to their songs which are powerful, thoughtful, and incredibly infectious. They manage to capture a certain freshness in their music, with slight deviations from the strictly ‘rock’ idiom, bringing a newness to the scene.

The band delivers songs ranging from loud and proud, to the middle of the road rock gritty, to the subtly beautiful ballad-esque sound. However, although 3 or4 of the catchier songs are incredible, the lesser immediate tunes are even that much better. I am not kidding.

Songs like “Lay Me Down”, “Cutting The Fool”, “Touch” and “Open Eyes” are heart-wrenchingly beautiful, being brought to life with Lost Souls On Broadway’s talent and fresh style. Yet, for the rockers out there, songs such as “Time”, “I Don’t Know”, “Breakaway” and “Satisfy” will satisfy your primal needs! And if you’re looking for something with groove and jangly chords, check out “Fallen Ground” and “Remember”.

Many of the album’s songs are moody and reek of melancholy, disappointment and a touch of anger. However, the overall quality of the album’s lyrical content and instrumental performances more than make up for the somber atmosphere, while there definitely are some positive songs to cling on to as well.

Mark Sarro’s lyrical style is unique and intriguing, producing some lyrical gems along the way, such as the album title song, “Anthems For The Fallen”.  Sarro’s quaint vocal phrasing and incredible ability to inflict extreme emotion into his lyrics makes for a good listening experience. On each track, the vocals and guitars work together providing perfect harmonious and melodies with impeccable timber and tone. Lost Souls On Broadway mix acoustic melody with gut-wrenching rock rhythms which invoke various levels of emotional desire to smash or simply hug and cuddle whatever is in front of you!

Everything comes together so perfectly for this band as a result of their extremely hard working dedication to musical perfection. The guitars provide flawless melody that flows like water and Matt Harrigan’s bass gives substance to the melody, while supporting the energetic and powerful drums which lay the foundation for their sound. Mark Sarro does the rest, to complete the Lost Souls On Broadway package!
