Born from an Operatic Soprano Japanese mother and a pragmatic Canadian father of Irish-German decent, Kiri Etzkorn began performing at the age of 3, starting with Hawaiian dance taught by her loving stepmother. She first joined a local Toronto Hawaiian dance group, and eventually moved on to become a member of the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre company. However she was always drawn to music. Finally Kiri reconnected with producer-singer-songwriter, John McIntosh of Dashney Music Group. A chemistry bloomed and since then Kiri, John, and sound engineer Andrii Zubyk have created a pop music project that has been developing and blossoming into something all their own.
Though her single “Anything At All”, is Pop, it’s more than being strictly Pop, you can tell that the notes, instruments, lyrics, and vocals etc., weren’t just frivolously thrown together in order to get this song on the Hot 100 chart. Kiri Etzkorn exhibits a deep maturity in her performance and has a message that is golden, a style that is unique and a song that is clean enough for all ages to listen to. Her voice is new and fresh and it has range.
This is a delightful debut single by a very talented young woman. “Anything At All” will be in your daily rotation for a long time. Young women can easily relate to what she is singing as the song describes the heartbreak and ‘get-back-up-again’ stages that most young women go through but don’t know how to put into words.
Kiri has a gorgeous voice that doesn’t sound like every other pop singer. I’m not one to overanalyze pop music, because I know that the buying public will not. So it’s a simple process for me, just like it is for the masses of music fans – sounds hit my ears and I either like it or not. Kiri Etzkorn’s voice hit my ears and I liked it – very much!
Besides Kiri Etzkorn’s voice and phrasing, this is one of those productions where the vocalist gets to shine – the voice isn’t lost in the overproduction typical of so many releases these days. Kiri’s voice is sumptuously layered onto a bed of rich pastel musical tones that build, shift and peak. Well-crafted, “Anything At All” moves from intimate to intricate and then back again. I reckon it is going to be such a treat to be able to follow Kiri Etzkorn’s growth and trajectory as an artist.
