Andrew Gerard pours out his heart on this album. His talent is shown through his heart-felt lyrics, outstanding vocals, and the overall composition of the songs. He steps it up and reaches out in his latest effort. The man has a lot going for him; his fantastic voice emanates pure emotion. His acoustic guitar playing is sublime, and his story telling is intense. Canadian Singer, guitarist and songwriter Andrew Gerard was born in Ottawa, and grew up on Vancouver Island. He is also known as Gerard The Hypnotist from the TV series Mindfreak with Criss Angel. Departing from TV and the world of magic after a car accident he rediscovered music while recovering. Discovered by LA Producer Ran Pink who produced the album, “Two Birds”, at Fonogenic Records in LA, Andrew is now working on his sophomore album.
As Andrew Gerard sings throughout this album it entices a wide array of emotions, causing memories of heartbreak, love, loss, everything. Every song can relate to how anyone can feel and I really think that’s what makes this record so special. It has meaning on a universal level that can touch the heartfelt moments of everyone’s life. The musical arrangements are beautifully put together switching from acoustic, to light electric and from up-tempo songs to slow-burning balladry. I can’t praise enough how well put together the songs on this album are. Masterfully recorded with high quality and amazing effects, this is a must have for anyone that needs a good record to close your eyes and remember the days gone by.
In places Andrew Gerard, actually reminds me of some of his favorite groups, like Maroon5 and The Script, especially in the vocal department, though his music has a much more airier and organic feel. He creates a set of song-paintings and uses new palettes of color, tone and textures that fall between alternative-pop and neo-folk. From the opening track, “One Night”, this album is as warm-sounding as neo-folk, and as edgy as alt-pop, but it all sounds positively comforting and sublime, as it does on “Here”. The great thing about Andrew Gerard is that he is a far cry from your average generic run of the mill musician.
Andrew is truly a talented soul, a lover of everything that is music, and it shows in any number of songs that he puts out. It shows on “Just Like Me” and “Forever”, as well as “Perfect Illusions” and “Forward We Go”, two of the most beautifully written, sung and produced songs on the album. Andrew’s words, his pleadings, his voice is so sincere that you’re drawn into the songs and become part of them instead of just subject to them – A true expression of musical art at its finest.
“Two Birds” is the kind of album that most music lovers like to purchase; something that you can play all the way through without having to skip tracks. Every song has a bittersweet message in it that you can’t help but vibe to. Andrew Gerard’s vocals are soothing and adrenaline rushing all at once, while each instrument remains to distinct complement, not complicate the overall composition. This is a recording that satisfies from beginning to end.
