From Toronto Canada, Hooked on Cronic is an EDM project by Jeremy Snow. Curiously Jeremy started out as a front man in a metal band named The Good Die Young. Ironically the engineer and producer who crafted the band’s debut EP at Low Gain Productions, would later collaborate with Snow on Hooked on Cronic’s smash first single, “Don’t Worry” Ft Logan Trearty, which was released via Daxsen Records (DMG). Along with his EDM dance anthems, Hooked on Cronic also produces Hip Hop, R&B and Pop for artists all over the world, some of which can be heard on his upcoming album “The House of Cronic”, currently in the works.
Beyond just releasing his music, Jeremy Snow aspires to building a Charity Studio and Label in Toronto for at risk youth, and children from poverty, to teach them production, engineering and songwriting skills, giving them a positive way to creatively express themselves.
On his way to achieving his many goals, Hooked on Cronic continues to release new music. His latest being the EDM single, “Light Up”. The combination of the effects, the sampling and the mixing, together with the beat, makes Hooked on Cronic’s style of music original and perfectly balanced within a genre which is generally flooded with new talent and hard to make an immediate impression in.
So clearly he is doing something right here. The producer brings in some awesome vibes in a song that has enough alternative drive to to make an impact both on the radio and in the club. Considering that there are no lyrics or vocals to speak of in the song, except for some adlib interludes, that’s a mean feat indeed.
But it’s those aforementioned electrifying vibes which vibrate throughout the entire playing time that ultimately ensnares the listener. The funky keyboard has a scintillating chord progression that moves in upward and downward spirals, juxtaposed against a banging beat and a twisting synth motif.
Constantly in motion, the track never stagnates on any one riff, or section, for too long, making sure “Light Up” maintains listener interest. Hooked on Cronic perfectly understands that this is a vital element for what can basically be called an instrumental piece.
The script for dance records can grow formulaic, but this is not the case with “Light Up”. In addition to the other elements, it’s the awesome keyboard work that appears to best assist the rhythmic groove on this track. Once the backdrop picks up steam after the orchestral intro, Hooked on Cronic adds bright, shimmering, and aggressive synths which bring total heat to the production.
This delivers a world of sound that marries rapid-fire creativity with a soulful and funky driving beat, and bursts of melodic beauty. On “Light Up”, we get true epic moments, and sweeping intoxication that climaxes into ecstasy. Ultimately, the track shows that Hooked on Cronic is brilliant at what he does.
“Light Up” it is the first single off the upcoming LP “The House of Cronic”.
