Fame Johnson: “Da Wave” turns something ordinary into something compelling, exhilarating and beautiful!

Originally from California, before recently moving to Texas, Fame Johnson is an artist with a truly unique approach: his sound combines the punch of hip-hop with the soulfulness of R&B, featuring amazingly catchy hooks and great lyrics that hit the mark. Fame’s sophomore album, “Da Wave”, which includes hot collaborations with well-respected artists such as Lil Flip and Kevin Gates, brings a new, cohesive sound that isn’t too common in today’s music. Producer Lord B. closely worked with Fame to create this crafty and catchy album.

Along with artists like Bryson Tiller, Travis Scott and Tory Lanez, Fame Johnson shares the same motive to get his story out while creating crossover Hip-hop and R&B music that listeners want to hear nowadays. This builds the flow of the album, producing stories that fit with his style of music. In fact the flow throughout the album is a mysterious yet hip vibe that correlates with Fame’s ambiguous music personality.

Music is just another form of telling a story, which many current artists tend to stray away from. However, Fame Johnson accomplishes this from to start to finish. Fans of this blend of music styles will no doubt be extremely satisfied with this album and it’s worth a real listen.

“Da Wave”appears to be his best work yet and transitions a new culture into the Hip-hop and R&B world.  Fame is also a clever songwriter, as this album contains songs that are riddled with intriguing imagery yet their essence is never revealed nor given any form of context.

Fame Johnson has managed to establish an aesthetic that is melodramatic, gothic, and of a quality which he makes his own and turns into something worth hearing. “Da Wave”, is no exception to these themes, yet there are nuances within the record that prove that there is more to Fame than his reputation or meets the eye.

As mentioned previously “Da Wave” is Fame’s most cohesive and straightforward album to date. In this, he can finally shed himself of any “up and coming artist” title. It is clear that Fame is in full control of the vibe he portrays, and does so by using his talent credentials and his notoriously mellifluous vocals that are central to his skillset.

Another component to Fame Johnson’s artistic transition is his choice to rely on some big-name features. The use of artists such as Lil Flip and Kevin Gates not only helps to communicate the songs’ messages but also establishes Fame as a credible and legit contender within the industry.

All throughout the album, Fame uses his ability to provide a change in tempo, tone and a cadence that differs significantly from song to song, but still synchronizes perfectly to each piece. Songs of particular significance in this respect would include: “Faithful To Da Game”, “Fake Ft. Kevin Gates”, “Ridah”, “Work Ft. Lil Flip JuDown” and “Radio Raheem”.

Despite the alluring mainstream melodies and captivating beat elements, in this project, Fame Johnson’s attempts to broaden his audience even more, and manages to follow through with his unique way of distorting what may be deemed ordinary, into something that is truly compelling, exhilarating and beautiful.
