It’s hard not to root for the Australian-based artist Sirpit who releases his music through Taff Dawgz Entertainment. About a year ago we reviewed his ultra-acclaimed single “Pop It”, produced by Go Grizzly X Hood Famous, and which was the first single from Sirpit’s debut mixtape “Start Of The Empire”. Now exactly twelve months later he has yet another project out, to show that he is more than just a one-hit guy.
At some points while listening “Twilight” Ft. Simba Tagz (Prod by Majik) you can really see why the MC could be this year’s breakout hip-hop artist. He has already mastered the trap/R&B fusion that seems to be getting more popular every single day.
His vocals are incredibly distinct and the production is somehow able to match his delivery. Moreover this track shows Sirpit experimenting and growing as an artist, something that is great to see in a musician.
Now before typecasting this song as another cliché hip-hop anthem of trite themes including the acquiring of material possessions, stacking unruly amounts of paper currency and engaging in sensual activity with promiscuous women, Sirpit’s “Twilight” Ft. Simba Tagz (Prod by Majik) is almost like a love ballad tangled in a bass-driven beat that is usually present in hot-fire club bangers.
There’s something about Sirpit. Whether it’s his voice or his exotic aesthetic, he is an intriguing young artist and proves to be a juggernaut after exploding onto the scene. On this track he succeeds in showcasing his ear for music and natural hit-making ability.
In the very large ocean of underground hiphop, many artists emerge into the radar, make a great song and then disappear, not living up to the song that put them on the public eye in the first place.
Amazingly, Sirpit got his formula mostly right on “Pop It”, and he may even have done it better this time around on “Twilight” Ft. Simba Tagz (Prod by Majik), adding in some more all-round depth to the usual catchiness.
Luckily Sirpit’s music is just as irresistible as the rapper himself, filled with head-bobbing, impossible-not-to-dance-to beats that will no doubt be played in clubs and cars everywhere.
