Eagle and Sisi drop the single “Drugz” off of Eagle’s mixtape entitled “MAJI: Music and Jugg Inspired”. The track is slow-burning and intense, like a trip in and of itself. As the song continues, it’s almost like the drugs (we didn’t actually take) are taking effect— “Drugz” has you slowing down and feeling warmed-up, transitioning you to that party feel where you’re ready for popping bottles, lighting up and sweet sultry sex – there’s nothing groovier.
Eagle and Sisi bring on the heat with explicit verses that leave no words unturned, all fitting into the grand scheme of things. This is one to bang in your whip and blast at a party, as both Eagle, and Sisi, as well as the listener comes full circle by the end of the track. Then again, they’re following a proven recipe.
There’s a slight musical sparseness here, a shock of hyperactive electronic music there. Sprinkle a bit of shimmery psychedelia over the whole damn thing, then lather on Eagle’s self-assured, effortless flow (which is in better shape than ever, probably because he plays with it so often). Then add the sexy slink of Sisi and Voila, you have your hit track!
Eagle and Sisi brim with club-crowd charisma, and on “Drugz” they seem impossibly glamorous even when they’re blurry-eyed and dissing somebody. Clearly, it’s also a druggy track, and the highs here are higher than the real thing — where the stunning minimal production turns from submerged to soaring, and sexy.
If you ride that “Drugz” soundwave, you’ll find yourself floating on Eagle and Sisi waterbed of emotions. Also the song is one of the best examples of how bold charisma works over a slowed-down psychedelic production; it is truly a winning element.
Will this track jump Eagle and Sisi into the elite hip-hop circle? That’s the question that was running through my head as the song started and ended. I was searching for the undeniable magic moment that would transcend them to the next plateau and found it.
Sonically, they sought to create a unique experience and that was accomplished. The production is diverse and intricate, the unexpected switches and transitions adds a level of flair that dispels any dullness. It’ll only take one listen to realize they have broadened their soundscape. There are a dozen rappers in Chicago that wish they could have such an infectious track!
