DecadeZ: “Innocent” ft. Too Short is infectious and endlessly playable!

Los Angeles based producer, songwriter, and rap lyricist DecadeZ collaborated with artists such as s Tyga, Problem, Too Short, E-40, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, ScHoolboy Q, Lil B, and Danny Brown. He has garnered worldwide exposure with a plethora of views on YouTube. DecadeZ has released his latest single, “Innocent”, featuring the legendary Too Short.

The track is a showcase of DecadeZ’s style, affectation and the interest he’s dabbled in across his career. And while the track does feel like a big-budget confirmation of his constantly growing stature amongst not just hip-hop artists, but pop music as a whole, the real fact of the matter is that “Innocent” is a self-produced piece of work – which is all the more impressive.

decadez-350The crossover track is a blast to listen to, moving deftly between Hiphop, R&B and Pop with a slight dancehall-influenced flavor. Sharply delivered rap verses and emotionally sung, soulful vocal lines populate this banger, as DecadeZ showcases his smooth talents.

I think he has delivered precisely what his audience wants, while emphasizing his best qualities. Described in a phrase, one could say that the track, from upcoming album titled “GVM”, and distributed by iMMe Records/Moji Publishing, is ‘dressed to impress’.

“Innocent” ft. Too Short is infectious and endlessly playable. And it’s biggest selling point is DecadeZ’s vocals. Locked into the banging beat, DecadeZ’s he uses his voice like a machine, and he’s always doing something to work his vowels or make his syllables extra-flexible. This freedom makes listening to him not just exhilarating but inspirational.

The track’s immediacy is another reason why it makes such an impression the first time around, and it’s a break from the increasingly experimental leanings of other over-hyped pop releases.

For an artist with the ability to write, rap, sing and produce a hit song, the track isn’t a drastic sonic departure from DecadeZ’s catalogue over the last few years, but rather a step forward towards even more polished and complete material.

It is a more satisfying crossover track than most rappers or R&B artists ever make. I’m not sure if “Innocent” ft. Too Short  is the best crossover track of the year, but it comes on strong enough to convince you – even for a few fleeting moments – that it just might be!
