DBA is an Electronic Pop Duo created in October 2015 by Xandra and Django. The release of their first single titled, “Ghost You Are,” is about haunting memories and is only the beginning of their musical journey. Xandra’s voice lays itself bare and if you accept her invitation to reside in the untouched spaces of your heart you will be richly rewarded as this woman can have a giant impact on the deepest parts of your psyche with her vocal intonation.
DBA deliver haunting visions and soundscapes with a deep sense of composition. Looking at the track as a whole, and by virtue of its sheer narrative grace, I sense a subtext of graciousness and deference toward having experienced disillusionment, and then gratitude, for having felt so much, to have held it so dear, and to have finally let it go. The song ascends and swirls thirsting for a crescendo, with a lush emotional vocabulary all of its own, and the music is a lot denser and more athletic than you at first give it credit for.
The evocative textures that Django’s keyboards paint are undeniably the glue that holds this music together so beautifully, and he calls his shots masterfully. This music reaches deep inside of you, driven by rolling percussion, gorgeous synths and sweet demure vocals. DBA dazzles the listener with a style and an artistic vision that show confidence and mastery going way beyond that of a debut single.
DBA have a gift for bringing the various components of their music together to work as a harmonious whole that mesmerizes and draws the listener through the story of their songs. Exquisitely evocative and emotional, “Ghost You Are” simply demands your attention. If possible, listen in a quiet area through good quality headphones or a solid audio system. The rewards will be immediate and enduring.
