Dan Q keeps moving ahead one song at a time, as he works his way toward the EP, “Buddha Statues and Herbal Tea”. Ten days after reviewing “Smooth As Sade”, Dan Q drops “Kick In The Door”, a Soundcloud exclusive track. Dan Q has one thing that many rappers these days lack, and that is substance – when all the other rappers are rapping about girls, money and sex. Dan Q raps about deep essential things such as life, street stories and knowledge.
Dan Q manages to vividly recreate a world of imagery all in one tidy bundle of rhymes, an incredible vocabulary and a deeply analytical intellect. His unique flow calls for nothing more than admiration, and even respect no doubt. “Kick In The Door” blazes, sparkles, and shimmers in its execution.
And again shows a continued evolution of style, form, production and certainly of wisdom. The track features a rhythmic, old-school musical beat rather than the hardcore sampling you would hear from many other hip hop artists. Also, Dan Q uses his sensational flow, great lyrics and artistic talents to make this a great listen.
Dan Q’s storytelling abilities get deeper and more complex on this than it was on “Smooth As Sade”, which means it may take a few more listens to thoroughly sink in. And even though the beat production is excellent, “Kick In The Door” once again proves that Dan Q’s tracks have to be appreciated more for the lyrical content. It’s still a question of substance of over style for this Newport News rapper. This track is a must have for any Dan Q fan and most true hip-hop lovers. It’s different from his previous release, but it is probably better from a lyrical and technical viewpoint.
Dan Q is one of better poets to ever touch an underground mic, hands down. His lyrics give you visuals and his thoughts are way deeper than the average rapper. If you want to listen to lyrics that make you think and are creative, this is your go to artist.
