What we are presented with on “Les Mauvaises”, the latest single by Italian composer Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni, is a beautifully coherent piece of music that manages to push the music of Bazzoni further into new territories whilst retaining his core ideals. It really is a joy to see an artist continually managing this balancing act of progression and tradition, of neo-classic and rock – a balancing act only a few artists in instrumental music ever manage. It is like the marriage of the traditional with the futuristic.
“Les Mauvaises” is a release valve for any emotions you may have been holding in. Here is music as catharsis. The track soars and soars climbing further and further towards the stars. Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni has throughout his career, managed moments of beauty and powerful bombast, but this feels like his purest and most emotive song to date. Bazzoni has always been good at tapping into a listener’s emotions with his music, and here he takes that another step further.
A blend of energizing symphonic instrumentation, shifting percussion, and choral reverb keeps listeners stimulated even when there are no lyrics present. Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni has been in the game long enough to prove he does not need to rely on lyrics to get his vision across. “Les Mauvaises” is a kaleidoscope of sounds. Bazzoni delivers a vibrant arrangement with alternating tempos, which can be almost anxiety inducing at times.
It is a superbly crafted musical journey, built on a solid rhythmic structure but beautifully adorned with strings, woodwinds and keyboards. The Italian composer is a master of straddling delicate subtly and all out, massive walls of sound. Here he leans more towards the latter. “Les Mauvaises” erupts, the sense of tension and then release could easily accompany a pivotal moment in any motion picture. One that roars and ripples with a dynamic hue.
In all honesty, “Les Mauvaises” probably represents the composer at his most efficient. What perhaps makes Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni stick out in this instrumental genre is his association with progressive rock, and his neo-classic compositional methods. Composing his pieces in this crossover fashion really gives Bazzoni a more freer and unrestrained canvas to work on than most. All of which makes “Les Mauvaises” a gorgeous record that builds upon an already sturdy base of sound.
Over a number of releases, Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni has managed to create a distinct sound of his own, something unique, and something great. No one else currently sounds like this. The sound of Bazzoni is very energetic and powerful like rock or metal but without the heavy guitar riffs, or the vocals for that matter.
Instead, in their place is a series or orchestral instruments. Moreover, the way the music expresses what we read in the song titles is brilliant. Once you hear “Les Mauvaises” you’ll be sucked into the sheer power of the music of Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni. It is thickly instrumental, vast and dramatic, but never overblown.
