On Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, singer-songwriter Amy Loftus is releasing her new EP, entitled “Keep on Movin’”. The EP will feature five tracks produced by Amy, Jacob Fatoorechi and Thomas Johansen. Amy also wrote all the songs on the record, with certain tracks co-written with Jacob Fatoorechi, Chelsea Davis, Marshall Thompson, and Thomas Johansen.
“A long time ago when I was having a tough time, somebody said to me “just keep moving”, and it stayed with me,” explained Amy, on the choice of the EP title. “I think it’s the answer when you’re changing, and this brand new direction was all a lot of change for me.”
We recently caught up the Ep’s title track and leading single, “Keep on Movin’”. Music is therapy, and Amy Loftus obviously has a lot of new emotion to work through here. “The track draws inspiration from a short interaction I’ve had with someone that felt unnecessary,” says Amy. “I was not ok with it and I wrote about it. It was a defining moment to have a gloomy encounter that sparked a song, which is often why I write.”
But instead of writing a depressing and desolate tune, Amy has swung the experience into a soul-cleansing, uplifting, and liberating anthem. Her pristine voice soars, almost joyfully, across a bouncy hand-clapping beat, as she sings: “Lift your eyes to the horizon / when it rains the sun still rises / you can still have a great day / even with a storm in your way.”
Amy Loftus is back with the kind of material that fills the heart and splits the soul wide open, in a positive way. I went back and listened to some of her older stuff, and if you were one of those people who fell in love with Amy’s music during her introductory years when it felt that she was sharing her very soul with you when she sang, and that she probably cared more about the authenticity of her music than she did about wanting to be a star, then you will love this too.
Her songs are personal but relatable, as she tackles simple, everyday experiences that could, and do happen, to just about every one of us. On the upcoming EP, Amy sings about her kids, her single girlfriends, and about the perfect day, spent “riding through open roads, barefoot with the windows down.”
It honestly doesn’t get much more real than this. A trained actress and dancer, this Chicago based songstress, who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History and Painting from the University of Kansas, considers singing and songwriting her true passion. And one listen to “Keep on Movin’”, will convince you that she is absolutely right!
