“Heart Drops” is the latest single by electronic artist, DAV!D&CLARA, taken from the album Adventures in Love, Lust, and Life. For those still not in the know – DAV!D&CLARA is an independent electronic-industrial music act out of the Phoenix area. David Castillo is aka DAV!D, while CLARA is David’s trustworthy computer!
It’s always an interesting experience to be able to strip away the layers of what makes up an artist’s psyche, especially complex, inquisitive minds such as that of David Castillo. In “Heart Drops” the heavy electronic chords, the beat and catchy harmonies, all come together perfectly, showcasing Castillo’s hypnotically effective and sexually alluring vocals.
This song is fuelled by a powerfully testosterone-laden dominance in Castillo’s need to be strongly sexual, in love, and in total abandon of what he desires. (“It’s not the hundred dollar bills you give me. Nor the clothes you buy, but I have to say they’re really nice. It’s the way you love. The way you touch. The way you fuck. Every 60 seconds you makin my heart drop!”).
This primal, animalistic nature is done to such a degree that some may wonder if Castillo has possibly gone too far. (“Every 45 seconds you makin’ me stop. Don’t stop. Don’t stop. Yeah. Like tears from my eyes, it’s so good. Your lovin’. Don’t stop, don’t stop. Tears from my eyes, it’s so good. Heart drops from your loving.”)
But this may be entirely the point he is making, that the need for being in lust, in love and in complete abandon of our true desires – (“I’m waiting to see your face. Nothing can bring me down. You make me feel that good. It’s bliss. Hidden deep within a kiss.”), is what ultimately makes the clock of our hearts tick. It is the vital energy which subsequently allows our pulsating heartbeats to pound even harder, each and every time the “Heart Drops”!
