This is music from the heart of Gary Konigsberg, aka Garko of The Garko Factor, and when it comes at you, it takes your heart away with it. His music is filled with inspiring lyrics and wonderful guitar melodies. The album “Spirits in the Silence” is a philosophy missing in much of our modern day culture, which looks only to the next day, without fully enjoying the present or planting the basis for a better future for all.
Garko comes to music from the unique viewpoint of being a humanitarian activist and spiritual believer, and his appreciation for life, through his music, is inspiring. His lyrics are filled with wisdom and meaning which would be appreciated by almost anyone who lives and breathes for a world, liberated from its economic and political chains.
If you are having a bad day and the world seems to be against you, this is the music you need, to get you through.

Garko’s sound is sincere and straightforward, and he makes some very catchy roots music, which will connect instantly with audiences. His style travels somewhere between Bob Dylan right across to Dire Straits and everything else in the middle, with most of his songs being far above standard radio pop, moving from light guitar acoustics to full blooded, rhythm driven steamrollers. This album serves as a great introduction to this lucid and down-to-earth artist.
On “Spirits in the Silence,” I found the sequence of the 14 tracks to be as strong as any that I have heard. From the opener “Runnin Ain’t No Way to Be Free” through “Tears of Joy,” “Livin in Paradox” and “Always Free” to the title track, “Spirits in the Silence” and “Zoo Keeper,” the songs lift sequentially from one level to the next, and as the soul of the material is progressively revealed, the effect becomes totally mesmerizing.
In addition to being a set of great songs, this is also a great production – minimalist, sometimes intense, sometimes reflective, but never banal.
Garko’s distinctive voice is certainly one his greatest assets, yet at times it seems hardly necessary with his songs, as they are full of sharp insight and thoughtful observation, delivered both with pathos and wit. The music itself on every song is outstanding, the musicianship impeccable and apart from encouraging you to listen to and enjoy this album for yourself, I can only say that I will definitely be looking out for his next available release.
