The BEEGE: “HANDS UP!” – it’s time to wake up and stand for something!

“I just want to make good music that will make people feel and make people think” says the BEEGE, “I get up every morning and look forward to how I can wake up one more closed mind in this world. How I can affect one more person’s life or day by giving them something worth experiencing.”

THE BEEGE
THE BEEGE

The BEEGE is a 30 year old African American- Brooklynite, born and raised. He lived in the hood, grew up in hood, but never considered himself a hood person by definition. The BEEGE was raised by his mother -who was a school teacher -to always apply himself and strive for greater things. “While I was always smart,” The BEEGE continues, “I fell under the pressure of being great. As I started caring less about school I began to craft my talent as a rapper. Hip hop showed me that there was a medium for me to express myself in ways I didn’t know how, up until that time. It became my passion, it became my life.”

A few months ago The BEEGE dropped his track “HANDS UP!”. It’s the first song off his upcoming mixtape, “With the Duke”. “In a world with civil unrest it’s time to wake up and stand for something!” says The BEEGE, as he raps:
“Hands up/ you a fighter you should stand up/ got some money put a grand up/ got kids you should kiss em/ got grand kids pick your grand up/ don’t know if you gon miss em/ man listen got my hands up/ never know when the man might/ see a brother/ and in plain sight be a nigga/ with no damn rights damn right squeeze the trigger/ right?/ I don’t need glasses to see the picture/

Hands up/ for the rap game/ put a hunned motherfuckas in the trap game on top/ till you know hap panes when they act famous/ they lacks brains now you gotta call the cops/ on em/ stomp on em wen they up/ they was raised in the hood they ain’t never give a fuck/ put a little money in front/ yeah they give em what they want/ now you got rapper acting like a slut/ awe man…”
The BEEGE has created a track reflecting the times we live in and for listeners brave enough to keep their ears open and absorb multiple listens, the depth, beauty, and the truth of “HANDS UP!” will slowly begin to unfold and reveal itself. This single belongs to a newer, complex breed of ‘ conscious art hip-hop’ that requires the attention of the listener.

On the surface, “HANDS UP!” sounds almost relaxed and freestyled. When you truly listen, and I mean the close eyes and boppin’ head listen, you realize the mastery it takes to develop an idea and theme, the way The BEEGE does. I could talk about this for hours but if you don’t believe me, this track deserves your full ear!

The lyrical wordplay is phenomenal while The BEEGE’s flow is right there in the music, there’s a powerful nuance to what he’s done here. He is not trying to overpower the music around him he’s blending in, and his pushing it along. My only complaint is that by the time you start to fully enjoy the song, it ends!

Translated, this means we’ll have to wait for the mixtape release, to fully appreciate The BEEGE’s rising star!
