Boston, MA producer SV is the featured artist on the Slap Jazz Beat Tape. A major part of the sound that helped define St. Louis’ Hip Hop crew “Jims Pool Room” over the past 10 years, the instrumental productions of Sean Veligor (SV) echo the boom-bap of Pete Rock. Similar to his musical collaborator Capo (also of Jims Pool Room), SV can craft an energetic yet emotional instrumental, a primary factor in him being selected for the 3rd CREW 932 beat tape.
Sean Veligor aka SV, is awesome. You can feel his passion, his motivation and desire in his music. It will just sweep you off your feet. Even as you peep the album cover, the colors are vibrant and warm; an invitation to enjoy what lies within. The advent of mp3’s and downloads, has put more pressure on an artist to ensure that every track is well worth the cost of a listen. And this is what SV does.
I heard the entire album on the CREW932 website, and I mellowed the entire time. I often think SV’s Slap Jazz Beat Tape offers some of his most satisfying work to date, and is a great introduction to this artist and producer. I am not saying he hasn’t produced other gems with his works, in fact he has, but this release hits home right away.

Here SV is dishing out a wonderful combination of delightful boom-bap jazz and hip-hop rhythms, including some enticing R ‘n B and Latin flavored sounds to match; completing yet another smooth production, and proving to be a master of his craft. If you’re a Sean Veligor follower, you can’t miss, by owning this collection of his constant progress into tomorrow.
The beats which kick, slap and punch, are very well blended on this beat tape. Whatever mood you are in, you will find it here. The strength of Veligor is his ability to arrange sounds, samples and beats into catchy music, and he does an excellent job of producing and arranging on this mix.
Prepare yourself for a journey. This beat tape takes you high, low, underground and just about everywhere else. At every change of track, there is a new an intriguing soundscape to propel you into beat nirvana. If you have any interest in boom bap hip hop work at all, you would be doing yourself a grave injustice by not checking this one out, as there is not a single boring or weak track on the entire collection – it’s rock solid from start to finish.
Of the thirteen tracks that make up the Slap Jazz Beat Tape, other reviewers might list favorite tracks, and while we all surely have our own, my best advice is to do like me and just let the music play.
Oh and by the way, this is fresh as can be. It was just released on May 21st !
