Born in Phoenix Arizona brewed in Texas and lives in the city of San Antonio, OCM (one crazy Mexican) is on his grind to bring his craft into world vision. OCM started rapping in 2013 influenced by Ice Cube, Techn9ne and Brother Lynch Hung. He is currently making waves with two recent releases. The EP, “The Monster Within” and the single, “Hit The Wall” produced by Sinima Beats.
I am definitely not one of those hip-hop snobs who worries about the fact that an artist sounds too mainstream, or too underground, or too whatever. I’m all for innovation, creativity, and exploring new musical ground. But most of all great lyrics, solid beats and lots of emotion. Well, if you share these opinions, then you’re in luck… OCM (one crazy Mexican) is for you!
OCM has really outdone himself with “The Monster Within”. Just listen to his energetic flow and you’ll be impressed. It’s evident from the recordings that OCM is a progressing artist, expanding his horizons as a lyricist and keeping his fire-breathing lyrics 100% pure.
OCM’s music is loaded with overwrought guttural delirium as he spews out personal tales – “When I first came to Texas I had a crazy mind state, a product of the crime rate, the evil that you hate…”, and explicitly described sexual escapades – “I like white girls because they let me do them in the anal. What can I say; I’m an unfaithful bastard, that’s hateful.”
But you have to listen hard, because it is that lyricism that goes unheard sometimes. Understandably, it’s easy to get caught up in the rapid, what-did-he-just-say nature of OCM flow, but it is his lyrical ability that truly makes him shine. He doesn’t just rhyme fast for the sake of it.
His verses, their rhyme schemes and his rhyme patterns are as well thought-out as his delivery choices. When the vivid narrative skills of OCM are in full check, as they are in the astonishing, “Life SSucks” produced by Sinima Beats, his talent illuminates brightly.
The aforementioned statement is backed up especially well when the sum of the composition, focuses in on genuine displays of skill. This is exemplified on the slow-burner “RAR3”, which I would consider the most emotional track on the entire EP. Much the same emotional spirit is instilled into “Deathbed” produced by Syndrome, which is the EP’s all-round standout track, both lyrically and musically.
“The Monster Within”, as a whole, walks the fine line of respecting and discussing OCM’s (one crazy Mexican) family heritage, and expanding on it with harsh and crude tales juxtaposed against his upbringing and his own personal experiences.
The explicit storytelling on “The Monster Within” is just one of the ambitious achievements this San Antonio-based rapper integrates to make his music so relevant, thoughtful and entertaining.
All of these songs model themselves around the excellent beats as a whole. In doing so they are consistently creative and catchy. Also, these are mood-setting and verbally deft gems you can’t help but nod your head to and admire.
