Emerging from the ghettos of São Paulo, Carlos Cresio aka Junior Dread first appeared on the Brazilian reggae scene in 1998, recording and touring with the band Reggae Style. Recognized for his natural talent and authentic, Marley-esque vocal tones, Junior Dread soon began touring internationally and recording with labels such as Scotch Bonnett, Gorgon Sound and Cubiculo Records. Junior Dread recently started working on a project with Kris Kemist of leading UK based reggae label Reality Shock, with the first single “No War” out now on 10″ vinyl and MP3 format on iTunes, Amazon MP3 etc. Check out www.realityshock.com for more information & releases.
Compositionally, and musically, this stands up to any Marley or Tosh release! Kris Kemist and Junior Dread know how to combine great, catchy, hooky songwriting with immaculate recording and production techniques. Like Marley, this song transcends any musical style. Great melody, intelligent and meaningful lyrics, talented musicianship– it simply does not get any better than this in the Reggae-Dub genre.
Needless to say “No War” by Reality Shock ft Junior Dread is an inspiring song. It’s just a matter of hearing the powerful lyrics to know what Reggae is all about. Besides being a wonderful song though, what really stays in your mind is the message this musical pairing brings to us, whether you are a Reggae fan or not.
‘Stop Wars’ has been a constant theme throughout history, but it seems that nobody really listens, or rather, those who do listen do not have the power to stop wars. Those who can stop it…won’t! Simply because wars generate more financial and economic gains that just about any other industry. However we need to be consistently reminded of the devastating effects wars bring on any population, to avoid our own moral complacency. And it is with this in mind that Junior Dread and Kris Kemist tackle this persistently catastrophic subject head-on, with “No War”.
“No War” by Reality Shock ft Junior Dread is reggae music, as it was intended to be, in terms of music arrangement, performance and lyrics. Savor Junior Dread’s affecting gravelly voice, as he sings about man’s self-inflicted wounds around the entire universe!
