Kinderjazz: “Teddy Bear’s Picnic” introduces kids to “swing” and the rhythms that are the key to Big Band music!

Kinderjazz is a one-of-a-kind swing band for children that have performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the world. Their recorded music is specifically written to engage young children, while simultaneously appealing to adults of all ages.  Parents love it because it is jazz and its educational in a fun way, grandparents love it because it takes them back.  Children love the rhythms and enjoy the instruments. Kinderjazz’s collection of blues, Latin, ragtime, jazz, and swing music is especially committed to stimulating developing minds of girls and boys under the age of 12.

So if you haven’t already tried to hip your kids to Blues, Latin, Ragtime, Jazz, and Swing music, then try Kinderjazz on for size. They are certainly some of the most youthful-in-spirit records out there, and fine representatives of the traditional musical styles no matter what the context is. There is some kind of music for everybody. And kids are no different. While the music presented here is by no means only for kids, it does happen to have the necessary qualities for kids to gravitate toward it. There’s the fun factor, the head bob factor, the dance factor and there are charismatic, humorous, and accessible soloists to draw attention with their plethora of brass and percussion instruments.

Hipping kids to these traditional music styles is great not only because they might become more informed Jazz or Latin music listeners/musicians of tomorrow, but because an appreciation of music has shown to be a critical factor in a child’s success throughout his or hers formative years. Save yourself and your children from today’s insipid “kiddie” music. The tunes, Latin rhythms, and lyrics on “Teddy Bear’s Picnic” are likely to be so much fun the kids will simply get into the swing of things with little encouragement needed. Even the title will draw them in.

This is a marvelous collection of Latin-influenced songs with quirky vocals and lyrics that should tickle any child and their parent’s funny bone, apart from giving them the groove. Adults too, will be mesmerized by the musical arrangements, the quality of instrumental execution as well as the sound production, which is spotless. What I really appreciate is that Kinderjazz is conveying the rhythmic and ‘groovy’ musical forms to kids at an early age. All of the other kiddie music albums that we find usually, have either classical, traditional or more sing-along pop styles. The eleven musical tracks on “Teddy Bear’s Picnic” introduces kids to “swing” and the rhythms that are the key to Big Band Latin music.

I love to hear them trying to bop along and play their toy drums to the rhythms. It also introduces kids to some real interesting instruments like trumpets, trombones, saxophones, drums, double bass and Latin percussion, in a world dominated by computer-induced music. Your kids get to hear this great music, by original and talented musicians, without the music being watered down at all…and yet it is still music that is completely appropriate for their young ages. The songs on this album are incredibly energetic, lively, and fun, and the times dancing and singing to them with your kids will become among some of your favorite experiences with them. “Teddy Bear’s Picnic” is one of the best kiddie albums I’ve heard…and that’s probably because Kinderjazz enthralled me too!
