GZ Barz: “The Audition” EP – a brilliant mixture of clever wordplay and on-point production

Gabriel Zagury, GZ Barz, is a 19 year old independent Hip-Hop artist from Montreal, Canada. Some of his biggest influences are Big L, Method Man, Eminem, and Cassidy. Growing up in an underprivileged neighborhood with a lot of freedom, Barz was influenced by the street culture at a young age and often found himself getting into trouble with friends around the neighborhood.

Currently living in Orlando, FL, Barz recently released his debut EP “The Audition” on Soundcloud. The lead track on the EP is “That’s Not Hip Hop” (Prod. by DJR). Despite the fact that most new music, and rap in general, has degraded into mind-numbing garbage, Barz delivers a brilliant mixture of clever wordplay and downright on-point production.

If you’re a hip hop head from the 90s, “The Audition” should be talked about in all circles. Hip-hop from the 90s set the stage for things to come.  It’s too bad that years later, nothing was forthcoming and the hip-hop of now just does not measure up.

Here Barz delivers quality beats, rhymes, lyricism, creativity, and all that makes hip-hop great. He comes out flying in all of his tracks – as hot, intuitive and addictive as it gets. There is really nothing that could make this EP better than it already is, and that is a rare thing.

From beginning to end, “The Audition” is going to have the whole hip hop world jumping. GZ Barz took it to another level with this debut and clearly shows his superiority in the underground hip-hop world. It’s really hard to believe he is only nineteen. He raps like he’s going on thirty, with a long career behind him!

To sum it up, “The Audition” is a solid EP in all of its aspects. Lyrically, GZ Barz is creative and ingenious, while the production shines all-round.   It gets five stars because it’s by far one of the better Hip-hop EP’s produced in a while.
