Dr Days Junction: “EP” – a consistent purveyor of solid, groove-ready soul-funk

Dr Days Junction is a 5 piece Bristol-based band named after an abandoned railway station. Currently working on a full album set to be recorded during the winter of 2017, the band fuses Funk, Soul, Disco and Hip Hop into their unique template. Fairly new to the industry as a unit, Dr Days Junction has already performed on the main stages of large UK festivals, The Bristol Music Show on BCFM Radio, and some other famous venues. In anticipation of their upcoming album, fans can stream and download the band’s latest 7 track recording simply called “EP”.

One may ask how a band who plays real instruments still manages to survive, in a world dominated by computer generated sounds. For an answer, you need look no further than this funky ensemble, a band that has plenty of gas in its tank, and who are producing uncompromising music for its fan base.

The UK-based ensemble of collective are groove masters to be sure. But it is the band’s special brand of soul and funk that resonates under the guidance of Michael Piper (Saxophone), Andrzej Posmyk (Guitar), Dean Stone (Bass), Limun Lau (Vocals) and Tom Newport (Drums). Their funk frosted beats are emphatically stamped on this recording and are relevant in today’s urban market.

Limun Lau’s creamy vocals ooze a sweet aroma on “Shadows” with its swooping sax and precision bass. The warm tones of Posmyk’s guitar wraps around “Hush,” a song that beckons back to seventies.  Lau pours her heart out on “Rise Again,” another mid-tempo knee-deep-in-funk jam, anchored by Tom’s exquisitely tasteful drumming and Posmyk’s jangly guitar-strumming.

“Leap” is the strongest demonstration of interwoven guitar and bass patterns in an almost Ska rhythm, where one instrument will allow the other to perform their nuances before coming together as a formidable force.

All throughout the virtuoso guitar and bass playing joins magically, creating a vibrant blend of musicianship, while Michael Piper’s saxophone adds a touch of tranquility within these songs.

“EP” for the most part is a recording which Dr Days Junction can be proud of. In amongst the sterling work of its musicians, the structure of the songs and the ability to create some of the finest soul and funk currently around, Dr Days Junction have proved that they are one of the more relevant real live bands on the scene.

Impervious to the ups and downs that often dog other live acts, Dr Days Junction is a consistent purveyor of solid, groove-ready soul-funk, and more. “EP” never needs to go searching for a feel-good groove and rhythms, because the members of Dr Days Junction are naturals at creating them.
