Angela C. Howell has sung all over the United States and most of Europe, performing as a vocalist with many varied groups. She is also known as a Musical Director and for her performances in the theatre world. Angela has released six musical albums, produced by The GoodStuff Company, as well as appearing on a wealth of other international recordings, both as a vocalist and musician.
Angela also released a holiday season album, entitled “An Original Christmas”, which features two songs she co-wrote with Bob McDonald and seven other original works, two of which were written by her talented father, Arthur J. Howell. Angela also co-directed and produced the video for the single “SNAP ME A SELFIE, SANTA”, off of the same album, and which can be found on YouTube.
“SNAP ME A SELFIE, SANTA” features the voice of 11-year-old Madison White on lead vocals. I know it’s only October, but the orchestrations and choral backing are so wonderfully infectious, that it started giving me the holiday season spirit already. So often, modern Christmas music is over-produced, tacky and forgettable.
This song is simply and beautifully crafted, built around a catchy, playful melody and many harmonious components, like Angela’s whistling for example, that combine to keep the listener interested and happy to sing-along.
As soon as the music starts a smile will come to your lips and your heart will swell with that sensation of the magic of Christmas. The selfie theme adds another very relatable subject to the already ‘tried and tested’ Christmas one.
So two rights can hardly make a wrong, as Angela cleverly weaves these endearing symbols of happiness into one playful portrayal of joy, which is the ultimate definition of Christmas really.
Madison White’s cutesy vocals and her sprightly all-round performance add yet another uplifting dynamic to the proceedings. The rest of that tingly spirit is brought along by Eric Anthony’s Banjo and Mandolin which ably dart and dance throughout the arrangement.
Angela C. Howell, along with Bob McDonald, has captured a hearty dose of the festive feel-good factor, in this composition, and without all the usual, and ostentatious, orchestral bells and whistles associated with Christmas music. They’ve kept “SNAP ME A SELFIE, SANTA”, bright, colorful and candid…pretty much like a Selfie I guess!
