Snake Eyez & Stu Jones: “Hyphy” produced by Hopsin

Snake Eyez is a 20 year old rapper from Weirton, WV. He is part of a movement that’s trying to bring intelligence, passion, and heart back to rapping. Snake Eyez has been quoted as saying: “I put a lot of work into my lyrics so you can guarantee there will always be a deeper meaning or a complicated rhyme scheme. I try to tell stories through my songs and hopefully you can take something away from them and apply it to your life. I’m not your average, stereotypical rapper. I don’t smoke, don’t drink, and I do well in school.”

A few months back Snake Eyez & Stu Jones dropped the track, “Hyphy”, produced by Hopsin – one of the most underrated rap artists in the game. Hopsin gets almost no respect and even less publicity in the business. He’s self-made and stays true to it in everything he puts out. Besides rapping Hopsin is an accomplished beat maker with an eclectic touch.

There is some of everything on “Hyphy” that should leave hip-hop fans from across the nation bobbing their heads and poppin’ their collars. Snake Eyez is creative and has a language that is all his own. He raps extremely fast in places, and it took me a couple listens to get it when I first started listening to this track. However, after a couple of listens, everything sounds clear as a bell, while Stu Jones does a good job of keeping the track riding too.

Snake Eyez is at the very top of his game, boasting his slang-filled flow on “Hyphy” with a cunning wit that is arguably in peak form. Though far removed from the fickle mainstream lane, Snake Eyez rides the line between underground and catchy, ridiculously well. His constant method of breaking down a subject into extremely entertaining and profound parts works well. If you ain’t got it…get it!
