Sarah Kolefo is an Irish-Nigerian singer-songwriter. Her work is a mix of soul, neo-soul, neo-folk and poetics vibing with music. Ms. Kolefo is currently based in Berlin, and working on her debut album. She is truly a breath of fresh air to music. She is what you call a real artist in that she writes her own songs and can play one mean guitar. Finally, an artist not caught up on money, looks, or whatever is in style, but one that is true to herself, her art and becoming the best of what you can be. I casually picked some of her songs and “Love Don’t Leave Me”, as well as “Beautiful, Truthful” caught my attention.
Her songs are something one should listen to every morning before going out into the world. It’s simply songs of inspiration that let you know who you are and what you’re capable of achieving if you only believe in yourself, think and try. Sarah Kolefo sings from the heart with wisdom and understanding of love and the world.
A singing poetess, Kolefo explores culture, spirituality and love in such a unique, innovative and fresh way. She’ll make you realize where music can and should go, once denuded of its hype and commercial arrogance. Her voice is light and soulfully beautiful, and her acoustic guitar skills are sublime.
Here’s a young woman with boundless talent: a wonderfully sultry voice, great songwriting skill, and the ability to play an instrument. Worth noting is that one doesn’t have to strain to make out the lyrics; she actually enunciates without detracting one bit from the content.
With hints of intoxicating rhythms, Sarah Kolefo makes music that is contemporary yet timeless music. With any luck, she will be with us for many years to come. Never strident or grating, and always mellow, this is an artist capable of fine music.
