BURUDU is Nakul Sharma and Sahil Bhatia, who got together during early-2013 to create a sound that signifies singularity. Bringing together their influences from deep house and chill out music, then combining it with the space and ambience of more post-rock and ambient sounds.
With 3 fresh releases this year through Spindisc Recordings (UK), ADX Records (ROU) and Red Light Cafe Recordings (AMS), BURUDU is in full swing and creating new music that further builds on their genre.
The band’s latest single releases are similar, but not too similar. The soft and hard parts are very fluid and have seamless transitions alternating back-and-forth to one another. Overall BURUDU’s music is overwhelmingly calm and peaceful, without getting boring, which is something most ambient kind of bands cannot achieve. Even the heavier parts are calm in a sense, not becoming irritating or unsettling, but just enough punch to deliver the right blend of calm and heavy. It is perfect for background music, having no overly strange experimental quirks, but still being experimental in the band’s personal sense. Their music as a whole sheds a warm sense of security, happiness, playfulness, and relief, with each different song having a different character to it. It’s great stuff, and I believe anyone with any kind of musical taste can enjoy it.
Each BURUDU song tells a story, as does “Georgina”, “The World At War”, “Sun Theory” or even “Percorsa”. The titles are appropriate in that they set the context for the music and the meaning behind it. If you can listen to this music with an open mind and using that frame of reference, it becomes an amazing experience to be had. BURUDU’s music speaks volumes on its own, no lyrics needed. As they truly captivate emotion in all of their music, which is bursting with genius and stunning understated melodies, and constantly moves to places you’d never expect, both delighting and surprising at the same time.

The production is sparse, yet highly adequate and twitching with atmosphere. In fact the production does exactly what it is supposed to, and that is get out of the way and let the music speak for itself.
BURUDU newcomers and long-time fans alike, will both appreciate these new releases as the band follows a formula that produces beautiful, heartbreaking, and uplifting music. There are no lyrics but that doesn’t mean there is no melody. They are creating music in its purist form, so don’t be surprised if listening to this album puts you into another level of consciousness that you rarely enter.
BURUDU are not afraid to break the mold and create their own musical pathway. With their music, you are inspired to do much the same. What is particularly great about BURUDU tracks is that with each spin, you catch something different, maybe a little nuance that wasn’t discernible the first time you listened. This prolongs the enjoyment of their music, which holds up to repeated listens.
