After nearly a decade as a San Francisco radio presence on-air and in the clubs, Ultra Records tapped into DJ Trevor Simpson – artist, remixer, performer, and World Town Inc. founder – to mix the 2006 compilation “Ultra. Weekend 2.” A year later, he followed that up by mixing “Ultra. Dance 8”, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Dance Chart and moved in excess of 80,000 units.
Trevor soon became a highly sought-after remixer, providing official remixes for Lady Gaga’s platinum-selling “Just Dance”, LMFAO’s “I’m in Miami Bitch“, M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes”, and a host of tracks for the likes of Paula Abdul, Dev, Cobra Starship, Nelly Furtado, and Jason Derülo. Cutting his own original music proved the next logical step and something of a dream for him.
“The focus was to write songs,” Trevor says . “I wanted to make a cool collection of dance pop that would lend itself to remixing down the line. The music could work on the radio or on the dance floor. It isn’t about simply appealing to one audience or the other. This is for everyone.”
The first single, “Dagger” (Featuring Niles of The Cataracs), went exactly in that direction. Then into the spanner works went “Madmen”, where Trevor and Kosplay pay tribute to Mad Men with a wicked sample from the AMC TV show intro theme song. On Tiesto and Swanky Tunes’ “Make Some Noise”, Trevor and Kosplay again team up on the mixing desk.
These tunes pretty much show, how Trevor Simpson manages to absolutely nail every track, every time. On “Dagger” the vocal play sounds fresh and arresting. While the anthemic , reverberated shout-outs by Niles, add to what’s already a sure fire club bouncer – it’s catchy, sing-along and will stick in your head for days. A pounding beat and heavy chords drive the beat relentlessly. If dance music could rock out, Trevor shows that it’s right here!

From banging kicks and hollow basses to screaming synths, Trevor Simpson continually displays his courage by pushing the musical envelopes on the tracks, and with the artists, that he chooses for his collaborations. It really doesn’t matter what you’re doing with Trevor’s music, full-on clubbing, or even a simple gym workout, his music will pump up tons of energy into your mind and body.
Even though Dj Trevor Simpson has successfully been on the circuit for a while, as an artist, he is without a doubt one of the best acts currently emerging from the massive dance scene. So far he has created some great stompers and a variety of intelligent EDM mixes that cover a wide spectrum of dance sub-genres. The three tracks mentioned here, easily playing testimony to his craft.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually captures the airwaves and makes himself into a huge star, much like David Guetta has. It just takes a little pushing into the mainstream to make those underground sounds really come out.
Thus far in his career, Trevor Simpson has confirmed all the required qualities to create some real dance ‘classics’, giving them a pop edge and really catchy touch. Simply listening through his catalog, you will find yourself encapsulated within the intoxicating beats and rhythms of his compositions and mixes.
