Spirit Swords is the pseudonym for the multimedia art project created by Zebulun Lego. Zebulun, who has produced music for over a decade, is a music & art producer from Gallitzin, Pennsylvania. He works with musicians, graphic artists, videographers, and authors to create content revolving around the story that Spirit Swords tells. Spirit Swords is a story about a dystopian future about the effect that artificial intelligence and the mystical divine have on the human psyche, which is told through a variety of different mediums.
“Promise Me You’ll Win” (ft. Pipa Moran) is the debut single from the musical aspect of the Spirit Swords project, which features Pipa Moran on guest vocals. Moran is a singer and songwriter from Oxfordshire, UK. She collaborates with several talented producers around the world on a variety of different genres of music and has been doing so professionally since 2016.
“Promise Me You’ll Win” (ft. Pipa Moran) tells a story about someone who is dying, and with their last breath, they wish the people around them to promise that they will fight on, and to promise that they will win. However if you are expecting a broody, morose instrumental and melody, think again.
Spirit Swords wrap the reflective lyrics inside a vibrant and uplifting soundscape. The track flows so well that it can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what genre of electronic music they like or even if they don’t care for it at all. Spirit Swords has showed a tremendous amount of skill with this debut and he’s only going to get better.
To say “Promise Me You’ll Win” (ft. Pipa Moran) is amazing is an understatement. This is a track that incorporates everything you loved about electronic club sounds of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. And cranks it up some notches, focusing on the beautiful vocals of Pipa Moran; this one is so good you’ll wish it was much longer than its three and a half minute run time.
This is one of those songs that can suit almost every occasion whether it is cruising late nights, to raving at a music festival. Spirit Swords relies less on shock factor drops than his contemporaries, preferring intricately crafted counterpoints and dulcet top lines.
Once you look past Spirit Swords’ clever harmonic and melodic pivots, you’ll notice that more than many electronic tracks, it feels like there’s actually a story being told on “Promise Me You’ll Win” (ft. Pipa Moran).
This is due to Moran’s intelligent lyric sheet, which matches Spirit Swords’ excellent composing ability and production creativity as a whole. Together they target listeners’ collective pleasure centers with pinpoint aim from an impressive array of angles.
“Promise Me You’ll Win” (ft. Pipa Moran) is without a doubt masterfully executed and definitely one of the strongest releases in all of EDM this year. It has an incredibly catchy melody and goose bump inducing vocals. You can tell a lot of effort has been put in, to make this track hit hard on all levels, as it explodes into rich and expressive hues.
