Jann Halexander: “Papa, Mum” explores the difficulty of love and feelings within a family

Singer-songwriter Jann Halexander was born in Libreville (Gabon), and recently celebrated his ten-year career in a Parisian theater before embarking on a provincial tour of France. Jann who blends emotion, humor, melancholy and passion into his songs – which deal with such themes as love, brotherhood, racism and life – is a French-speaking singer, but his voice and music has seduced audiences in the U.S.A, Canada, South Africa and Russia too.

Jann Halexander’s more popular songs include “A Table”, “Aucune Importance”, “Il est minuit Docteur Schweitzer”, which he has already performed on stages across France, Belgium and Germany. Jann has also been selling thousands of CD’s and DVD’s since 2003. In May this year he released his brand new song entitled “Papa, Mum”, which explores the difficulty of love and feelings within a family. The video clip in support of the song was created by his colleague, Jeff Bonnenfant.

For those Americans who want to broaden their pop horizon, and maybe learn a bit of French along the way, this is a must single. “Papa, Mum”, is an irresistible bouquet of piano-pop, and a melodramatically poignant melody. Jann Halexander has a terrific, expressive voice with a far-reaching range, and his song writing skills transcend the genre. Listen as he searchingly opens “Papa, Mum”, with the words (roughly translated):

“A porcelain colored Mom

An ink colored Dad

And the child, a head in the air

And all these unspoken family secrets…”

If you are looking for pleasing, but meaningful pop, with a distinctive French flair, it’s hard to go past Jann Halexander. He has been around a little while but sometimes it takes a little digging to find treasure. His tracks are easy to listen to and there is no mediocrity in them. In fact his material is a cut above and you will find thoughtful tunes, impeccable, stylish and sensitive singing and carefully, simply constructed arrangements. Look out for Jann’s upper register at times – it’s very moving. Needless to say the sound of the French language takes it all to another level.
