Because you wouldn’t exist.” In his quest to bring people together through music, Yahru El Guru has dropped a bunch of uplifting and spiritual mixes which are currently on Mixcloud, but will also be found on his website soon. The mixes are:
Dragon Behind The Bamboo – What an instantly soothing yet rich sound that Yahru El Guru creates through this mix. With atmospheric themes and vamps that echo easy listening yet resemble an astute Oriental rhetoric that last just under an hour, the track finds the whippoorwills of a progressive ambient sound, sending them through the chutes of the soul as we know it. A triumph in many senses of the word, Yahru El Guru has once again energized a niche with supreme creativity rather than simply paying homage to its roots. Winningly ubiquitous and genuinely enticing for disciples of chill, Dragon Behind The Bamboo is elevated from simply background music to a full-fledged conversational piece through him exploring the interpersonal interaction that the sounds find in one another.
Bada Boom Yame Japan Mix – This track does not allow the listener too much time to breathe. Swapping the transcendental festival oeuvre for a more calculated soundtrack to trip the light fantastic, “Bada Boom Yame Japan” is modern trance infused with tracks by the likes of E-Clip, Zyce, and Don Diablo, as well as the Thrillseeekers. The mix is also nicely interspersed with vocals by Jan Johnston among others. Undoubtedly, this upbeat record has nuances that will blossom upon repeat listens. Digest and repeat multiple times for full impact. The progression starts from the moment you hit play. There is great attention to fluidity from beginning to end which is indicative of a well-made mix no matter how bi-polar the tone. If you have been listening to this type of music since back in the day, I think you will see the value in this mix.
Meditation – Pure, weightless and elegant, “Meditation” is true to its title, as Yahru El Guru comes up with a mesmerizing stunner. Constantly reinventing and discovering new, uncharted territories. Few influence underground, electronic dance music like Yahru El Guru. My friends, the days of dropping boring, monotonous progressive house tune after progressive house tune are over. Time for a new trick. Mixing breaks with deep and tech house is where it’s at. This mix will stand out ten years from now. Uncharacteristic to the genre, the melody on this mix carries as much weight as the rhythm, while each song belongs to the other. It shifts back and forth through breaks and house effortlessly. No anthems. No overdramatic prickly synths. You’re just left with a feeling of something new. It feels like music caught between night and day. This release is not for newbies. This is for the jet set, veteran clubbers looking for the next big thing.
It’s A Dubstep N Trap – This mix will have fans spinning their fingertips wanting more. This mix is arguably one of his the best. He brings the blissful medium of electronica back to the drawing board, and my oh my, did he ever drop the house on this one. Heartfelt and creative, “It’s Dub Step N Trap,” has everything. One can’t help but move to it with gladness to be alive. This is a monumental piece of work. A dark, relentless, subtly twisted bassline keeps the track moving, coupled with suitable percussion, and rising sound effects. This draws towards the breakdown, which whisks you off to another world. Then just as you get too comfortable the dream fades and you are thrust back into the thundering groove. Hirshee, Afrojack ft Chris Brown, Laidback Luke, Another Monster, UFO and more are included in the mix. Simply put, one of the best DJ mix sets you will ever hear.
There are no weaknesses in these sets and this is without question Yahru El Guru finest work yet. The mixing is quality and the music selection is diverse but excellent. With repeated listening, these sets began to grow on me, slowly, methodically and enchantingly. Yahru El Guru has unearthed some gems here and has spun them into a great mix, chock full of percussive gymnastics and hooks that just won’t leave you.
