The title might be immodest, but it’s accurate. “Lunatic” contains just about every grotesque, over-the-top sound, shriek, scream and noise that you can (and can’t) imagine, jimmied onto one crazy, sprawling collection. While you’ll find a smattering of some nostalgic-inducing musical beats and sounds to help get your feet tapping, you’ll be overwhelmed by Darren Ross’ auto-tuned wackiness.
Darren’s specialty is unearthing the obscure, the weirder-than-weird and the grotesque in anything that appears in slightly ‘normal’, and then transforming it into something totally more bizarre and absurd. Put this album on for your unwitting friends next time they are over at your place and you’ll all be laughing (or be quite shockingly disgusted) for quite a while.
Darren Ross is an Australian from Canberra, who casually goes by the artistic definition of ‘comedian entertainer’. Darren started out making silly funny videos on YouTube; in fact he has something like 158 videos published there. Now he is creating what he calls “new comedy music that makes people laugh and happy.” I’d more modestly call him the king of silliness.
What Darren does, couldn’t seriously be categorized into any music genre (though he uses all the latest technology to put together his swaggering beats and vocal bits!), neither could it be described as straight-off comedy. No, Darren is in a category of his own, his is a one-horse race, and he is a clear winner too!

Take a slice of T-Pain, a pinch of Captain Beefheart and a sprinkle of Weird Al Jankovitz, detune, discord, now jangle and jar then add cacophony, delirium and dementia. Put this to a hip beat, then mix and mashup with a dash of Rolf Harris’ Aussie flamboyance, and you just about have half of the lunatic madness you have to endure listening to the original sound of Darren Ross.
This is a truly diverse collection of frenzied hysteria gone totally mad. You’ll either love or hate Darren Ross, there can be no in-betweens, as there’s nothing technical or intrinsic to judge here. There’s just the man and his madness. Spoofy Darren is right up in your face from bar one with the craziest, abstract arrangements around.
The album Lunatic contains fourteen tracks: Intro, Haunted, Bobble, Wobble Your Dick, Independent Women, Sexacation, The World Never Ends, Hairy Bush, Drunk (Featuring The MightyBeatZ), Under The Sun, Killing Me, Swag (Featuring The MightyBeatZ), S.M.C and I’m A Freak, some of which are just plain silly, others are just plain weird, and still others offer a humorous social commentary or satirical take-off.
If I could describe all of this in one word, it would without a doubt be BIZARRE! If bizarre is you thing, then Darren Ross is your man. Hardly anyone else goes over the top as much as he does! And if you think I’m making all this up, or even exaggerating just a tiny bit…check Darren on Youtube…
But be warned, this guy is a LUNATIC!
