For every lover of music, there’s bound to be one thought in everyone’s mind that’ll shake things up and create conversation. It happens more than ever these days. The only issue is you can’t tell if someone is serious about their critique of an artist or they’re simply trolling for fun. With that said, here’s my opinion: The Black Astronaut collective is the most talented and prolific crew on the block at the moment. I argue with colleagues about it and revisit their website on off days to make sure I’m not crazy, but the thought still sticks with me. Charles Luck and crew are creating a body of work that deserves to be in the conversation.
So it’s no surprise that Charles Luck & Tino Red’s “Scrambled: Finding Answers” (Produced By Haaru), is at the center of the table today. It has a clear-cut story, and the pieces surrounding it (concept, lyrics, production, etc.) molded it into an impressive track which I believe no one really expects to be as good as it is.
Charles Luck & Tino Red have a tendency to sound like no other artists, having discovered a sound they can call their own. And this is already surprising in itself as we know that there can only be a slim amount of artists with their own sound. Yet these guys (and girls on the occasion) have achieved it.
Music is more fulfilling to listen to when your mind and ears are open and willing to hear it through and making a solid, reasonable verdict without, and that’s the approach needed for “Scrambled: Finding Answers”. Charles Luck & Tino Red take their artistry to another level, in this new effort.
It’s mighty evident from the moment you press play, that the track holds the impact of a film score. More than a simple rap song, this is a profound spoken word project, where the narrators drop lyrical gems and mesmerizing storytelling that will have your ears glued to the speakers. Charles Luck & Tino Red, plus the entire crew make up what I would call the Pink Floyd of Urban music.
There is always something deeper to read into their songs and it’s always composed with a complexity that will make you come back again and again – either to simply enjoy or to fully understand. The production? Are you kidding me? The connection between Charles Luck & Tino Red and whoever is on the boards at any given time – in this case Haaru – is pretty strong.
The instrumentation and production plays a huge part in any songs executed by the Black Astronaut artists, as it has to create a feeling that’ll stand the test of time, and not just be the flavor of the month. These songs, like Charles Luck & Tino Red, aim to be around for a very long time indeed!
